In the beginning there was Fear In Motion, an electro band formed by Thomas and some friends. Their main goal was to make music they liked themselves. Unfortunately, because of geographical issues (the call of love pulled him to where his girlfriend Stéphanie lived), cooperation became too infrequent to allow for any real progress, so Thomas quit the group.
Shortly after that, armed with a PC and the CS1x Thomas Verschueren and Stéphanie Fraikin formed the Electro/Industrial band BuroPolitik.
Dark, gritty and minimalist are the words, which perfectly describe their very percussion driven music. Even though minimalist it in no way means that they make simple music. Lyrics, at times personal, at times socially involved go together with very beat driven music, underlined by hard synthlines and pumping basslines.
All of this makes for very danceable music containing some pinches of Suicide Commando, old Terminal Choice and :Wumpscut: (we can all dream right*grin*), but topped of by some healthy helpings of original BuroPolitik.
The tasks within the group aren’t clear-cut divided, although Thomas does the major part of the song programming while Stéphanie mainly contributes lyrics and live keys.
Up to now Stéphanie has provided the vocals for a couple of songs, but more is sure to follow. Her soft, almost innocent sounding vocals, supported by distorted beats and harsh synth lines, take the pervading feeling of darkness that is present in all their songs even a step further.
