July 22nd mixi me with compulsory-volunteer service and religion, and what do you get? me being my usualy jerk-ass self with foreigners and the religious (for your reading pleasure) Previous Day | Next Day

World Youth day is in about a week and me, being the great, kind, jesus-loving guy that i am, have volunteered to help out at my school with the pilgrims that are staying there. Actually its more to get my mandatory 40 hours of community service done. My school is hosting about 120 pilgrims from Belgium, Sweden, and Kitchener-Waterloo. The kids stay overnight at the school, and during the day they are in Toronto at all the world youth day stuff there. My job is to be a fire marshal. I don't know why it's called that, because all i have to do is sleep overnight at the school each night and boss a group of kids around. Today was Orientation. I went to school at 4 and they gave me a pile a stuff. I got a nice whistle made of plastic, a bag full of soap and deodorant and stuff like that, and an ugly yellow t-shirt with something about world youth day written on it. I am in charge of 10 guys, all from Belgium. I was given a list of their names, and some of them are plain, like Tim and Steven, but then a couple have cool names like Bosco and Aendrik. The kids arrive tomorrow, so right now nothing is happening really. I managed to convince my friends Lauren and Checo to volunteer with me, and as a pleasant surprise, my friend Steph also volunteered, which I didn't even know until today. Well my school has a big triple-gym, that has walls that slide through to divide it into three smaller gyms, where all the pilgrims, and me and the other fire marshals are sleeping. In two gyms, its all girls, and in the other gym is all the guys. 2 girls for every guy. I like those odds! Its kind of crappy though, we don't get cots or anything to sleep on, just 2 gym mats. But at least the fire marshals get three!! haha! in your face foriegners! But really, nothing happened today, except i got a yellow t-shirt I have to wear everyday. Agh, Yellow. That bites. Yellow clashes with all my pants, lol. I wanted a red shirt, but noooooo... all the guys get yellow. Anyways, tomorrow the pilgrims arrive, and things will actually happen, so then there should be something interesting to write. This is all just kind of background information so you can kind of understand all the other things. I'll try and get some of the things scanned that the WYD people gave me if i get a chance, so you can see how lame most of the stuff is. Talking about lame, one of the first things I noticed when I got to school today, was there was a billboard with a bunch of things on it, and someone wrote "Jesus loves you!" on it. I couldn't help laughing. God thats lame. Also, they gave us those glasses with the fake nose on them to wear when the pilgrims arrive tomorrow. I don't know why... it seems pretty stupid. But me and checo walked home wearing the glasses, and a lot of people gave us weird looks. We went into a convenience store to buy some stuff, and i told Checo to pretend to rob the store, but he wouldn't do it. Either way, the clerk was watching us the whole time. Thats all that happened really that was interesting. I'll write another little thing like this tomorrow, and everyday during the WYD thing if I can. This should definately be an interesting week.
