One Past Midnight...
...and despite not having heard confirmation of their return, I am confident that Alyx and his friend Missy have made it back safely from the Port City of Nova Scotia. It is a long drive, from here to there and back, and the final leg in Missy's travels that commenced over forty-eight hours ago in the Land Down Under. Right now, I imagine them curled up snuggly in front of a roaring, crackling fire, sipping wine and perchance listening to music while beginning to doze off peacefully into a long, deep slumber.
Life rarely gets any better.
I cannot imagine how exhausted Missy must be feeling. I cannot bear to consider how cold she may be, despite how close she gets to any source of heat. The climate is much different here than on the other side of the planet. It will take a few days for the body to adjust to the much, much cooler temperatures. But regardless of perhaps finding the cold almost unberable, winter here in Atlantic Canada offers a natural beauty unlike anywhere else. With snow capped evergreens, frozen rivers, and ice covered branches, all walled in by varying mountains and hillsides, it almost makes winter bearable even for us inhabitants.
While spending well over a day simply in flight, I would imagine the excitement of world travel has its own appeal. Were I to have the opportunity, however, I could not see myself going somewhere warmer. Heat and I do not agree, it is as simple as that. Nor could I see myself visiting the ruins of Greece, or the pyramids of Egypt, as wonderous as they may be. No, my idea of a worldly getaway would be to hold up in a tiny bed and breakfast in a little village that time forgot deep in the highlands of Scotland. I would have a difficult time returning.
Nevertheless, the hour is late and I must retire. A very warm welcome to Canada, Missy. Dinner is at 7:00, crackers and cheese at 6:00. Dress in bulk, as these old houses are drafty.
And Alyx, enjoy.... ....Blessed Be...
