Paulo Andrade was
born in October, 24 th 1969. His first contact with the bass happened in
1985, and nowadays he still goes on with his four-string instrument.
He considers
himself as a self-taught musician. At first, he had preliminary classes
and afterwards continued improving his technique up to now.
His musical background
came from a habit he had. He used to listen to songs and play these notes
by note, which was essential for his perception development. He also used
to watch musicians playing at shows and videos, in order to learn new techniques.
Paulo is most influenced
by Rock, Classical, Jazz and Instrumental Music. As a bassist, Jaco Pastorius
is his main influence, considering his different approach to bass guitar
playing, in terms of rhythmic and harmonic aspects. He also appreciates
the musicianship of Mark King, Rocco Prestia and Gary Peacock.
Between 86 and 88,
he took part in some bands, one of these Equinócio. Later, in 1994,
he began to develop a work with a trio (Guitar, Bass and Drums), mixing
Progressive Rock with Brazilian rhythms. Two years later joined a guitar
player to play instrumental music and jazz. He took this opportunity to
develop his ability to improvise.
At last, in the
beginning of this year, 1998, he met musician Marcos Dutra and decided
to join Equinócio again.
