Marcos Dutra was
born in the seventh day of August 1963, Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. As the
youngest of four brothers, a lovely family brought him up, although they
have never had professional musicians in their background. However, music
had always been there, since his early childhood, when he used to listen
his mother playing the piano and the loud voice of his father singing at
the church.
Soon, a great desire
grew up inside him. He took part in musical activities at school and church.
Then he noticed that music was something which he could not live without.
At the age of nine,
he started learning the piano, which he managed very well. Unfortunately,
his parents had to sell the instrument in order to solve financial problems.
No problem. Getting used to this new situation, he kept on playing the
only instrument he had: his voice.
Six years passed
until an acoustic guitar appeared in his house. (His father used to sing
with friends at parties and meetings). It was love at first sight. As a
self-taught, he was getting better, searching the instrument, and bringing
knowledge from his previous studies in the past.
Feeling something
incomplete, Marcos naturally meets the electric guitar, inspired by David
Gilmour”s intense and melodic solos and other groups and artists. While
he was growing up, his elder brothers used to listen to songs performed
by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Milton Nascimento, Taiguara,
Egberto Gismonti, Belchior...
As time goes by,
he developed his technique, exchanging experiences with other musicians,
becoming an open-minded artist, observing new tendencies without losing
his identity. Although he considers himself mainly influenced by Gilmour,
he appreciates the musicianship of Trevor Rabin and Joe Satriani. As a
singer, Peter Gabriel, David Byron and Freddie Mercury.
