Kiki Smith showcases works
executed in a wide range of media that reflect the artist's fondness for tactile materials
like wax, plaster, resin, silver, wool and papier mâché. She employs a variety of
production techniques, including traditionally feminine practices such as quilting, dyeing
and embroidery, as well as utilizing technological processes to cast objects in metal or
glass. The result is a collection of works that range from intricate and fragile to
formidable and strong. Viewed as a whole, Smith's body of work reveals the coexistence of
vulnerability and strength in the human condition.
