WINTER CLOTHING APPEAL
Thailand, for most people, conjures up images of palm trees swaying
in balmy breezes on white, shimmering beaches, or maybe thick, lush, sweltering
jungles full of snakes and other surprises, or again perhaps the hustle
and bustle of Bangkok full of three-wheeled taxis, strange smells, strange
sights, unreadable shop signs and golden temple spires gleaming under a
blazing hot sun.
It therefore may come as a shock to many that in the hills above Chiangmai
city in the North of the country, temperatures can fall below zero and
even in Chiangmai city itself, people actually die from exposure!
For the poor and aged in particular it can be a challenge to stay warm.
In tropical Thailand, the winter nights claim many lives every year. People
also suffer from injuries when open fires burn out of control in wooden
homes.
YOU can help Thai and hilltribe (ethnic minority) people with
this annual hardship. We at 'Good Morning Chiangmai News' invite
everyone who can afford it to donate items of clothing that are no longer
needed to our on-going appeal.
Socks or shoes with holes in? Shirt collar frayed? Jacket needs mending?
Trousers getting shiny? Children suddenly grown out of things? DON'T
THROW THEM AWAY!! Items now useless to you could help save a life!
We accept whatever you can spare - clothing, blankets, quilts, children's
toys, school necessities (pencils, rulers, erasers, exercise books etc.)
dry or canned food, kitchen utensils etc., which are then handed over to
the needy at the end of each year.
Remember - there are no such things as too little or too much!
We would like to take this opportunity to warmly thank all of you who
have donated items to our appeal in the past and advanced thanks to all
of you who will be donating items in the future.
Please send your donations to:
