CacciniAmarilli, mia belaAlmost every opera singer must sing this as a student. It is an excellent song to display full command of breath and fioriture. Dmitri did not disappoint. He sang it beautifully and displayed excellent fioriture at the song closing bars. CestiSe mantieni il mio amorVery similar to Caccini's song, although Cesti is from a later period (30 years later). The song allowed Dmitri to once again display all the qualities of his voice and technique. HandelChi sprezzandoSorge infausta procellaOmbra mai fu from XerxesI was surprised to find Dmitri singing this repertoire and although not being a natural to this repertoire he acquitted himself well and in Ombra mai fu sang from piano to forte and interpreted the aria rather well with a smile in his face which is appropriate to this aria where the character is happy (and not sad as the melody might suggest). GluckO del mio doce ardor from Paride and ElenaThis is indeed a very beautiful aria (I hadn't heard it before) and was beautifully interpreted by Dmitri. His voice by now was projecting better (probably he was getting used to the excellent acoustics). Che farò senza EuridiceI was surprised. I heard this aria some weeks ago with Teresa Berganza (live recital) and am more used to hearing mezzos sing it. Anyway, it was interesting but not particularly memorable. MozartHai già vinta la causa from Le Nozze di FigaroVery good indeed. He interpreted as a Count full of fury, similar to Raimondi's. He hit the high note at the closing of the aria with no problem (after all he's a baritone !). Deh vieni alla finestra from Don GiovanniHe lacks experience on this role. He should have sung the aria lightly but sang heavily. Needs improvement. Fin ch'han del vino from Don GiovanniThis aria does not require interpretation but bravura. Dmitri sure provided that and sang the aria fast and didn't stop to take air which counts for much. But the fact remains that he does not yet know this role enough. |
