I had complete failure with my Veg garden, mostly was my fault and the weather was not a help. Your site should be helpful as I prepare for Winter and plant more bulbs, care for roses, etc. do some mulching, etc. My husband always took care of the gardens did a good job. This is new to me.

Sorry I cannot be of help as this is my first tryat a small garden. I have planted some perennials and filled in the empty spaces (to leave space forperennials to grow and provide some colour. I also have a few small evergreens and will plant sometulip bulbs before the frost.) I hope I do the right things so that I do not lose anything. I am partially handicapped and it was very difficult to maintain what I have. I have put some cocoa beans to help with the weeds and I have cut the heads of all dead flowers weekly. If someone has some advice, I would very much appreciate it. You may be certain that I will read and re-read your entire site. Thank you sincerely. E.G.

I was in the same situation... of course I had help from my dad to help answer all my questions about gardening. But there were a few times he told me something wouldn't grow, but I'd try it anyway and even though I knew nothing about gardening I just seem to have the touch. I'm still learning and read everything I can get a hold of. I greatly appreciate your info and will be back

I love growing perennials and herbs from seed. When I first started out, almost twelve years ago, I made a planting table mostly out of what I could collect around the house. Bare-bones metal storage shelving, an electric timer and added to that two three-foot flourescent light fixtures hung from the metal shelves with chains and S-hooks at each end. That way I could raise or lower the lights as I pleased. In really ambitious years, this method of indoor planting has yielded up to eight hundred seedlings: delphinium, foxglove, culinary herbs, canterbury bells and wall flowers. Flowers and herbs which resent being transplanted, such as lupine, poppies and dill do well in the little peat pellets you've used. When they're ready to plant outside I just tear off the netting and pop them in the ground. Great fun to find your site. All the best!lisa

Really enjoyed your pictures of your garden and the progress you are making. It is always a workin progress as you say. Have been flower gardeningabout 10 years myself and always enjoy walking through the garden looking to see what is bloomingor about ready to. Put a Hosta garden in the front yard last year and it really looks great. The neighbors really enjoy it as much as I do.I have mostly perenials but enjoy annuals too forall summer-long color, mixed in here and there.

It's a wonderful site - from a person who is trying to learn about plants - generally I just watch them turn black and fall over (sometimes, for variety, they turn yellow and fall over) - anyway I enjoyed your site, and will be back, because I can use allthe help there is!

Just found your site and have to compliment you on the design. It's very eye-catching! Am a brand new gardener. Last fall I bought and planted a rododendrum (sp?). The instructions said plant in full sun but a nursery worker recently told me they don't like all that sun. It doesn't seem to be doing so great but I don't know if it's the sun or from a bad ice storm we had this winter. Some of the leaves look burned (or were frozen?) Anyhow, they're brittle and brown. I watered it with some Miracid. I don't know if I should move it out of the sun or leave it alone for a while to see if it recovers. When you're not out gardening, check out our website. Click on Frontrunner or Redskins Journal.

I used Jiffy 7's many years ago. I now use Pro-Mix with vermiculite in it for seeds, + No-Damp in the water. As a guide, I have been using Thompson & Morgan's guide for seeds; the print is fine, and some seeds are tricky, if they were viable in the first place. I'm 51 and have been gardening for many years. - Billy, Portugal Cove Newfoundland, Canada
