Our Cave After what seemed like a never ending journey (5 hours in all) , we reached our destination. The Caves where we had planned to stay were occupied by cattle and was unihabitable. We went into a neighbouring small cave and ofloaded our haversacks. All our bedding and clothes (except mine) had become wet and our bags were half full of water. I had so put all my items in different plastic bags. The one containing my spare clothes was right on top and thankfully dry. To top our misery we made the cave wet with the water from our Haversacks. Three of us immediately took crocin and went to sleep. (at 2:30 pm) We got up at 6:00 pm, had thick roti made of jowar or bajra or something and had some rice and besan, (prepared by the local person who was looking after the cattle) and went to sleep. It was the most miserable food I have ever had. The cave did not have any protection, and we were in the midst of the Jungle. with these thoughts I went to sleep again

Got up at 3:00 am in the dead of the night. It was still raining Cats and Dogs. Lighted some candle which we had brought with us. We had slept for nearly 12 hours, and the best part was that all of us were feeling fresh and charged. It was cold so we lit a fire from the sticks which the local had given us. Soon we were chocking with the smoke in the cave. That was another experience. Tiwari said that we would start our return treck down at 6:00 am. We decided against going to Konkan Kada Peak because of the weather. This 1,424 metre peak is unique because from here, the semicircular massif of the Konkan Kada offers the fascinating sight of a coin defying the law of gravity by swirling upward when flung into the air, because of high wind velocity.

Now it dawned on me that i would have to retrace my steps and this time I would be looking down into the deep valleys. The weather making it very risky indeed. I was shit scared. I started looking at the options in front of me

  1. Stay back may be for a couple of days till the weather cleared. But there was now way to communicate to my people at home
  2. Search for another route, to go back. It was longer than the route we had taken, with bright chance of getting lost.
  3. Stay back forever.

The third option seemed the best to me. It took a lot of convincing from Tiwari that 6:00 am TODAY was our best chance. So with a lot of negative thoughts in my mind we started out. I put on my previous days wet clothes, so that i could wear the dry clothes again after catching the bus.
Well the return trip was not without its share of adventure. I will keep it as brief as possible.
