It's been a rough month. We "lost" three of our animals. They all have touched our lives & each taught us something special. It's hard to see them go & even harder to bury them, but there are other's to care for and keep us busy as we grieve.
Luckily Buddy wasn't one of them, he is doing well. Just last week he had some movement in his back legs & tail. He lives in a large "aquarium" with plenty of hay & "things" to climb on. He eats rabbit food & he loves pecans as a treat. Today I gave him some fresh Romaine lettuce from my garden and he "ate it up". |

Fido
died on April 23rd. He had been diagnosed with "kidney failure"
over 2 yrs ago & since then, we had been giving him 200cc's of fluids
(sub-cutaneously) twice a week. Well, this past month he just went down
hill. The vet was going to come out around 6:30, to put Fido to sleep,
but around 5, Fido died "on his own". I kind of think for the
past week, he was waiting for us to finally let go of him, so he
could go in peace. It's like when we made the decision, he finally said
"it's about damn time" and he let go.
One funny story: About 1 month ago, Chickabee (see her on the homepage for her background) bit Grace & when Chickabee walked by Fido, he popped her one right on the rear. That was the 1st and only time that I saw him ever do that. |

Silver died this past month also. He was (as to quote the bird vet) "developmentally challenged". I think somehow that's why we picked him, but just didn't know he was "ill" at the time. He was always weak and looked "rough around the edges" (literally). He just started getting weaker and weaker. He was Grace's pet & I'm sure her other cockatiel misses him terribly. She's thinking about getting another one, to give Sterling a buddy. | |
Magda died as well. We thought she possibly had "bumble foot", but her whole leg was affected. It just got worse and extended behind her "stiff as a board". We took her to the "bird vet" & they said that most likely Magda had something neurologically wrong with her. Grace gave her massages every nite and loosened up the leg, but by morning, it was extended & stiff again. One evening she just died. |

Easter Chicks: To end off on a happier note. Two children of a guy at work received 2 baby chicks for Easter (not a gift from the parents, might I add). I guess when you live in town, it's kind of hard to keep chickens. Anyway, we found a home for them, yep here at the ranch. |
