A
diamond -
Rough and uncut
Still untouched by human hand
But its beauty cannot be matched
A
rarity
Something that used to be
A dime a dozen
But our greediness has changed that
Now, only it remains
It is in our backyard
But we fail to notice
The signs of stress
That are showing
On a face older than our society
Older than known time itself.
We
fail to notice the beginnings wear
Little rips at the edge
Of the fabric of its beauty
Moths have come to gnaw away pieces
Vital pieces
Parts of the overall tapestry
But
most of all
We fail to notice its beauty
It takes outsiders to point out
What we should already know
We
should consider ourselves lucky
We have a slice of a once large -
Now nearly diminished -
Cake of paradise.
Look
around
And see what is here,
Before all is gone forever.
