Beleive it or not, even inanimate objects like houses have 'feelings'. Or at the very least, they are like sponges that soak up energy and vibes. So when thinking about clearing the space in your home, there are some preparations. If you have any information about the inhabitants who lived there before you, you may be able to use that to your advantage. For example, if the previous tennants or owners harbored a lot of anger or were depressed, these kinds of vibes can linger-- even over the course of years!
If this kind of information is unavailable or unsuitable, ask yourself this. What do I feel when I walk in the door? When I see the walls, the floor, the ceiling, the corners, how does this house feel? Dont be afraid to talk to the house! Carress her walls, give her a name and greet her with fresh vitality every time you enter. If she is sad, cry for her. If she is angry, sing a song of grace with her. If she is lonely, buy her flowers. If it helps, think of your house as an animal that may have been neglected or abused. She needs more than anything your compassion and love. Then she will surely love you back and care for you.
In space clearing, we must start by cleaning. Keep in mind that objects are sponges, so if you have anything that is in your house that reminds you of hard times or bad relationships or struggles or failures or guilt or sorrow, GET IT OUT! And make a ceremony for it, however you see fit. The next thing to do is to work with 'stuck' energy. Energy becomes stagnant in places that are sometimes easy to pin point. Are there places that are like magnets for dirt or clutter? Clean these spots and fill them with something that makes you happy or is full of life, like a plant (just dont let it die!!). If you have a cat, notice where she likes to sleep (other than your lap of course!) Cats love stuck energy like they love wool; its static. Other prime spots for stale energy are corners, nooks, doors or rooms that are not used, broken windows, closets, under the bed-- anywhere a three year old would imagine monsters hiding! The second thing to conquer in space clearing is the energy itself. Energy stacks from the bottom up, so if you have a basement, begin there and work your way to the attic if you have one. If the house is one floor, begin at the front door* (I will define this later on).
Work your way through systematically-- dont miss an inch! To prepare for this you will need:
a) a clear head and aura (some examples for this; take a hot bath or shower, start first thing in the morning, have breakfast- but a healthy one with live food like fruit, but stay away from meat or eggs because food like that can pass on vibes too!)
b) a gong, chimes or your own voice
c) inscence or candles or a spray bottle with water (for added umph try mixing in a healing or relaxing or refreshing oil like frankinscence or sandalwood or citrus or pine or peppermint)
Find a starting point in a corner and begin by clapping loudly with your hands, from floor to ceiling or as high as you can reach. This will move the energy. But beware that it may not be favorable energy so dont ever do this without following through with the next steps!!!
After you have moved the energy from this spot, use the gong etc in the same motion, from bottom up, and realize here why this is important: the sound waves that are created by these instruments neutralize the energy, bring it into harmony with their reverberations. If you are using your voice, sing or chant from a low octave to high or from soft to loud. Next, if you are using inscence or water, move the stick or spray the bottle in again the same motion, from the ground up. *An important point to note here: Three is a magic number in feng shui, a spiritual one. The most powerful numbers in fact are 1, 3, 9. So if you are using candles, light one, three or nine and dedicate each with a prayer or a promise to yourself. Also, make sure not to forget that you are a sponge for energy and vibes too, so be sure to cleanse often, at least wash your face and hands, or shower if you feel the need; take a walk etc. during this process. After you have finished cleansing the space, be sure to cleanse your body extensively. If you have animals, watch them during this time. They can see the energy move. Dogs usually will bark or whine but cats hate it when the energy moves, they run from it.
