Feng Shui for the New Millenium

Feng Shui delves much deeper than the mere arrangement of material objects. It is not only a cleanup, but a new way of life. A way that will at the very least bring you closer to peace and fulfillment.
Here's the key: Listen!
Feng Shui is all around us, we breathe it, eat it, love it, fight it, we are the essence that is CHI
Chi is sometimes referred to as the 'life force', or universal energy, that is the cause of all we know. When our lives are in order, including but not by any means limited to our homes and offices, Chi moves easily, gracefully, gently. When our lives are in chaos, or we feel pressured or harried, so does Chi. This can work both ways, we have great control and effect over Chi, and Chi has the same over us. By choosing to take this wholistic approach, we work with the life force and that can be our greatest weapon against misfortune and depression.
When Chi is allowed to move around naturally, hence your life will flow more smoothly.

For example, (you can imagine that the air itself is Chi if its easier to comprehend) think about how a stream flows in nature. If it were to flow in a straight line down a mountain, it would pick up immense speed and come to a crashing end. Most streams, however, flow in a wavering line, keeping the pace of the rush constant. Another example; think of an animal track through the woods. Animals do not travel in straight lines either, rather they take the easiest path. Chi is the same way. So when thinking about how to arrange your living room, think about how Chi would like to move. If there are many straight lines, edges and corners, the energy in the room will be like the stream down the mountain, or like an arrow flying through the air. And hence, if you are sitting in a chair directly opposite an arrow edge like that, the energy will be charged directly toward you, and you may feel edgy yourself. (I apologize for the typed drawings, check back later for actual pictures! But for now, let the arrow be energy and x be you)
-------------------> x
If there is a round table between you and the edge, then you may feel more relaxed because the energy is redirected around the table.

Other ways to redirect energy are:
mirrors
crystals
plants
chimes or bells
inscence

  Sometimes energy becomes stuck, trapped. This is another feng shui no-no. If there is a dark corner in your home somewhere, or a nook in the hallway, I'd be willing to bet that things like shoes, trash bags, clutter, etc. get thrown there. This will cause energy to accumulate and become stale. Clear these spaces, use cubbies or closets or shelves or racks instead. You will assuredly feel like taking a deep breath and smiling when you feel the difference in the energy in these areas. There are methods used in feng shui to clear the energy that has become stuck.
