  Books to read

I have read quite a bit. I enjoy it as much as writing and have read at least one book in nearly every genre there is.
When I first started reading actual books, and not only fact books about frogs, I started reading the normal selection for youths. I read cute books about a boy and a girl and their problems, I read ghost stories, I read amusing books about vampires and ghosts, I read historical novels for kids, I read about Indians, I read about ancient Egypt, I read fantasy.

It was all a jumble at first, after a while though I started to read them more orderly. I went to the library, where everyone knew me and I knew everyone, and browsed the shelves or the pamphlets for new books I hadn't yet read. I found a few, brought them home with me and read them, I'd like maybe one and when I'd realize that I would go look for more books by the same author or in the same genre. I'd ask the staff if they could recommend another book similar to the one I liked and that way I pretty much exhausted every genre I liked in that small library.

Some genres I left behind me, like the books about Indians and the cute little books about a boy and a girl. Others I stuck with. I still read fantasy, I have 21 volumes by David Eddings and I am looking for number 22; I still like books about ancient Egypt; I have all of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles, including the Vampire companion; I have rediscovered the crime novel and the detective stories with Minette Walters and Sue Grafton; for the sheer love of the English language I have the Complete Works of William Shakespeare; for the wonderful narratives and the philosophy I have all Ayn Rand volumes I've been able to find.

I don't know that many people who reads or read quite as much as I used to. I don't have the time to anymore, but I still look for new books in the stores and at the library.
I don't know exactly when it happened, but for some time I've only looked for books in English. If it's in Swedish I am much more sceptical. I suppose this might mean that my Swedish is deteriorating. But then again I've always had times when I couldn't figure out what a word was in Swedish and had to go via English :-) I like being able to do that.
