The Runestone at Julita Manor

There is only one known runestone left in the Julita parish - the one located in the garden of Julita Manor.

Afte the middle age, many runestones was used in building churches and castles.

That wasnīt because the stones were "antichristian" - many runestones were made by christian vikings and had the christian cross on them. It was just because they was "good material" not only to put runes on, but also to make walls of.
Itīs said that there may be runestones from our parish in the walls of Gripsholm Castle.

The inscription on the stone is:

"Ormar reste stenen efter Torkel sin fader"
(Ormar made this stone to Torkel, his father)
