I'm currently in college out of town, but I still come back for breaks and
sadly, this is no shock to me. No wonder there were no police to be
found when I was raising hell as a teenager. I see where at least one
of them was. I'm not surprised. If Lil' Ricky wants to fling
rubbers on top of Rosedale, doesn't that break some city sanitary code?
At the very least, shouldn't it?
Maybe he should adopt a rooftop and pick the damn things up himself, to make
up for the fact that he was serving the City of Oak Hill in the form of your
wife those nights, which is of course against employment ethics and God
knows all the rules. You'd think if he's having more sexual encounters after
such public embarrassment, the very least he could do is be a little more
discreet than the SaveALot parking lot. Shows you the intelligence of
this town, right along with that fifth-grade grammar and spelling in at
least a fourth of those letters on your page, not to mention the adamant
bible-thumping and the lack of realization that there IS, indeed a First
Amendment.
Excuse my ignorance about the law here, but shouldn't you be getting a
lawyer, and seeking aid from another source/agency in this little matter??
With all the dirt everyone in this town has on the police force, jeez.

apply to them or they make them up to fit the occasion. And yes, in my opinion
the parents and teachers of Rosedale Elementary should be mad as hell. I
am pretty sure that the custodian at Rosedale has already taken care of the
nasty business (He should really be mad). Kinda makes your wonder who told
him about the "Rosedale Hotspot" though. He was a newbie
transfer from Mullens Police Department back in 1995 when the affair
started. You wouldn't think he would know all of the hot meeting places
unless some of the boys on the force "let him in on a secret" so to

Just wanted to let you know - John Akers never used Ricks
name to cover his own "indiscretions." Actually, (and this has been
going on for at least four years that I know of) Rick has been busted several
times, and always blamed John to relieve himself of any suspicion. Every time
that ***(Rick's wife)*** or anyone else for that matter, questions him, he says that John
Akers is running around doing things blaming it on him. It's kept him out of
trouble quite successfully for some time now. To the best of my knowledge, and
trust me I would know, every single time the blame had been laid at Officer

Well I tried to leave it a city
situation. My complaint, in my opinion, was shoved back under the table to try
to hide the lack of performance of city employees and officials. The
"hearings" were scheduled late at night. No follow through on any of
it. I think everyone has a right to know. I tried to work within "the
rules" as given by the city and the Civil Service Commission. It
appears that the rules keep changing. Several members of City Council heard my
audio tape, Fred Heard my audio tape. Review board didn't want to hear my
tape. HE Signed a statement to the fact that he was doing this! Nothing
done. Period. Edwards knew that nothing would be done, as he told me this
during a chance encounter at a local convenience store. Police Officers are
notorious for protecting their own. Just look at the headlines about all
of the crap that they are dishing out to people. Renegades. They
should be held responsible for their wrongdoing and stop hiding behind their
badges. If they would put as much effort into performing real police work
and seeing that ALL things are handled right within the department then they
would not have to spend so much time (and the city's money) defending themselves
for wrongdoing. As another officer recently wrote to me about the shape his
department was in, before someone took a stand to see that Renegades were ousted
from the department. In his words "All it took was one within the
department to take a stand and see that things were righted. Our
department owes a great debt to this officer for the first step in our
rebuilding of the department. Although shaky, it was the first step of many, in
heading in the right direction. I commend you for your stand."
Yes the subject matter is crude, and downright tasteless. But the story deserves
to be told. In answer to your question, No, my life is not perfected.

out about the "gentlemen" of Fayette County. After all, OHPD isn't
the only police department people there depend on. So, please send me any

I read your site with amused interest. Technically,
It was well-done. It was refreshing to read an individual's
site that didn't reek of typing errors, misspelled words and
improperly-used homonyms. I'd really like to know where you got your

I am a law enforcement officer in WV, so I
choose to remain anonymous as I don't want any repercussions coming back to
me or my department.
I don't intend for any of my comments to be
offensive to you, I'm just speaking my mind here, just as you did on your
site.
It sounds to me like you have an ax to grind,
but you're grinding it on the wrong parties. YOUR complaint is
with YOUR WIFE. If there is a complaint to be filed with OHPD, it
should be by your wife, and without you in tow, or if I'm reading between
the lines correctly, pushing. And since she was obviously a willing
participant, doesn't sound like she has one.
I can't believe that a loving husband would
shame his wife on the Internet like you did, or take her to meet the
officer's wife without her even knowing what was going on. Makes me kind
of understand why she cheated to start with.
Administratively, I admit that it was
wrong for the officer to have sex with her while on duty. Morally
and ethically, it was wrong, period, for them to have sex outside of
marriage.
As far as the ins and outs of the
investigation and hearing go, I'll withhold comment as only one side of the
story is being told here. And I've learned the hard way to never make
a decision based on just one side of the story.
Bottom line is, the complaint was filed, the
process was initiated and you lost. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

I just read your story and this is the first I have heard about
this
situation in Oak Hill. I do not currently live there, however, I did for
many years and still have family in the area. I am very sorry to hear what
happened. I agree with you when you say that this officer should have been
disciplined, and even lost his badge. I know I obviously would not feel
safe
in knowing that the very men that are the "paid protectors" of my
community
were only protecting themselves (in more ways than one). And while I am
talking about protection, that is the one thing that sickened me the most.
I
myself attended Rosedale Elementary and the mere thought that used condoms
were left on the school property, not even disposed of in a decent way, just
thrown about, left for some child to find??!! That is truly disgusting and
immoral, never mind the fact that both parties were married to other people.
I have to say though that I also feel that this has brought a great deal of
embarrassment to your wife. I am not sure how she is coping with all this
publicity, but I cannot imagine that she feels like showing her face in
public after this story has been told. That is what makes this even
worse...that the public has to hear such garbage, that the police force is

would have been "done" about this officer, it would have saved all

consisted of. you probably realize that hindering a fire/ems service is a felony
but did you know that there is no statute of limitations on felonies? but is it

I worked at PMC some 8 years ago and can tell you the same
things were happening then. Cops come and visit and a nurse or 2 would be gone
for a while. I'm sorry that you had to deal with all this crap. Great to see
you stayed with it. I really thought Harding was a good ol' boy too; but you
seem to have gotten some help from him. At least a few words that he supported
you.
I lived in OH for many of my younger years and a few of my
adult ones. I liked the town but not the politics.

It is really a shame that these things happen. I live in
Oak Hill and work at Plateau Medical Center. I work midnights and the
hospital is frequented quite often by a few Oak Hill City Cops late at night.
I know that at least one of them is married but i'm not sure about the others.
One night in particular that really comes to mind happened about a year ago.
A nurse and one of the officers went into the med room and locked the door and
stayed in there for over an hour. It made it impossible to go in and get
medication for the patients. The cops weren't doing their jobs and the
nurse wasn't doing hers that night. I was having to do hers and mine.
It does no good to complain, as you have found out yourself. I commend you
for taking a stand. I hope your wife changes her ways and doesn't make a
mistake like that again...I hope the people of Oak Hill will realize that things
in this town need to change.

I have
also been ridiculed and am still being harassed by some members and
officials in the town of ANSTED over an incident that happened almost 3
years ago. First, it was the fire department, then the police
department, then back to the fire department and also a well known
ambulance company. All involved are good friends and you know how that
goes. It's like a little mafia there, with skinheads as members.
Also,
like your problem, there is no leadership and no one to stand up to
them. And I don't even live in Ansted. I really feel for the
citizens
of Oak Hill because they now have one of Ansted's former police officers
on their force. And as far as it making the other police officers
look
bad, yes it does. Other officers who are trying to do their jobs and do
it right should speak out against the other kind instead of either
taking up for them or ignoring the problems. If they don't, then
yes,
they should be grouped with them. That is what they deserve!

MANY MANY MANY Oak Hill Cops 'Partying and Drinking' the night away! The
stories I could tell you!! If only I had kept the pictures! Maybe I can still
find them! But I grew up and moved away and put them behind me.
But the only way, back then, to be left alone and not be harassed, was to
play their little games. I can remember one night in particular, meeting..........

I can not tell you enough how much I thank that you are doing a

situation. This brings be back to the time that OHPD had pulled my
grandmother over on a traffic stop and she had a prescription drug in
her purse at the time she was pulled over the officer that pulled her
over poured all of her pills out in his hand and then keep them until
she got a written letter from her doctor saying she should had been
taking them but the worse part of this is they wanted to give her the
pills that the officer had put his hands all over to take. How was she
supposed to know where that man had his hands. It is just little things
like this and your story that makes me stop to thank what kind of people
are suppose to be keeping down violence in our town and watching people
whom are breaking the law. When they break the law worse then anyone

About 23 years ago my cousin, Steve Bush, was pulled over by
these small
town police and was seriously beaten. Steve was going to file a law
suit but his parents discouraged it. They felt the publicity would not
be good for my Uncle Ivan. He was a doctor at Oak Hill hospital.

checked Oak Hill, WV was in the United States of America, and one of the many privileges
that we have as United States citizens is freedom of speech, my hats off
to you and to all who have wrote in supporting you. To those morons that
sent in negative responses, they are exactly the reason why non-West Virginians,
such as myself get the impression that the entire state is full of idiots, I
could say more but you have asked to keep it clean. I have lived here
for over 6 years now and realize that for the most part people are decent
around here. So to all the non- West Virginians reading this please
understand that this State is not full of a bunch of toothless, inbreeds,
there are just a few like the ones who have responded negatively to this mans
fight for justice. And to think a school teacher of all people,
responded with the most uneducated commentary, she is probably getting
some out on the football field after hours. ( I hear that is another local law
enforcement hang out)

respect for the individuals who are paying our salary.
I want to commend the gentleman who had the courage to put up this web page,
most people in this situation would not subject themselves to the obvious
ridicule that comes from opening a page for comment such as you have done.
I do agree that something needs to be done in this situation. I as a law
abiding and tax paying citizen do not appreciate my tax dollars going toward
this sort of thing. How would anyone truly be able to trust, confide or
call for assistance from any OHPD officer when it seems that the city condones
this sort of behavior. All negative comments that have crossed your page
have surely been written by people who are focusing only on the affair, not
the disciplinary action that should have been taken, which was what your page
was all about. Too many small towns like yours seem to override the true
justice system. Keep up the good work and keep your head held high, you are a
true man in every sense of the word and should be proud that you have brought
this injustice to light and maybe by your actions you can keep other citizens
from the same anguish that has been endured in this horrid situation. Best

This is just beyond belief to me. I have never seen so many fools in
one town. Sure I knew that the Oak Hill City PD was incompetent and Fred
is the main reason for that, but to think that so many citizens of Oak Hill are
trying to hide and ignore the truth here. Everyone wants to throw up the
theory "what is this going to do to the children?" This really
angers me because the children have no business getting involved in this in the
first place but let's look at who was really concerned about our precious
children. What about a cop who exposes young children to things such as possible
diseases by throwing used condoms right into their grips. How many parents
want to have their child come home from school and say "look what I found
on the playground"? How is that any different than if they found a
used drug needle? And maybe a father doesn't want to have to explain to a
questioning child about the rumors going around school as far as what kind of
department he works for but remember, it's not your job to answer for everyone
on the force. A father's responsibility is to assure the child that he has
committed no wrong doing and that he can't speak for the others. Now if
someone has a guilty conscience, then I can see how this may become
difficult. This is a situation that has to involve the entire community
because obviously the people we have selected to provide justice and protection
for us are not doing their jobs properly. I'm not about to stay here and
have to answer to an officer that I have no respect for anymore. And who
should be expected to do so? How can you be a law enforcer when you have
no respect for the law yourself? This man should be punished and Fred
should be fired as well. They are both setting a bad example for this area
and we as a community shouldn't be willing to tolerate it. That's why I'm
shocked that so many of you are willing to do so. Not only tolerate it,
but defend it as well. Yet, all you can do is throw ignorant little
comments out like children yourselves. And as a graduate of the OHHS in
1998 I must say one last thing; thank you Betty Craft, you have reminded that
recently, not only has our police department come under scrutiny, but so has our
school system regarding racial issues that led to one students wrongful arrest
and another student being assaulted by a teacher. I guess considering your
position, you are quite the role model...balls and all.

I commend your tenacity in pursuing this
unfortunate matter. It is a horrible tragedy when the people chosen to
serve and protect only serve and protect themselves. I would be
extremely careful though, it wouldn't be unforeseeable for a law enforcement
officer to try to find a way to silence your efforts, either by planting
evidence on you or some other means. It's sad, but sometimes we
fear the most those that we should trust.

I think you have all right to reveal the truth behind the DIRTY cops that
think they are so important. Shoot, the police department can't even
direct traffic at the local high school. Sometimes they believe they are
above the laws that apply to the normal citizen. I think however that
you should reveal your name since you revealed the names of so many others.
Also your wife is not entirely innocent. Next time try not to use
ebonics in your title like "Da Players". Oak Hill's police
department and the people who think they are doing so many great things for
our community need a reality check.

I would like to thank and congratulate you for the very informative
"Fred and Rick Show". I have sat back for years and watched
the Oak
Hill Police Department (if you could call is a police dept.) dish out
injustices to the citizens of Oak Hill while letting their own rise
above the laws we are required to obey. I've been reading your
interactive page and I can honestly state that the negative responses
are coming from the family members and friends of the PD. Some of
which I know personally. Obviously the can't read or comprehend the
purpose of your page. Your page does not focus on the affair but is
merely informing the citizens of the antics of the Oak Hill PD. Also
as far as Ms. Horrocks' and Ms. Crafts' comments. If the other members
of the PD want to look like a decent dept.(there are some good
officers, but few and far between) they should make all efforts to clean up
their act. Not many people have the gonads to speak up for what is right
as you have done. If I were a member the Oak Hill PD,
city council or mayor, I would petition to have the offending officer
removed immediately and never be allowed to work in law enforcement again, not
even to sweep the floors of the city jail as he obviously has no regard for
his badge, his fellow officers or the citizens of
Oak Hill. Let me add, I certainly hope that while this officer was
"working" so to speak, there weren't any citizens being robbed,
maimed or in need of police dept. assistance as he certainly would have been
too busy to respond to these needs. This is not the only complaint on the Oak
Hill PD but they always seem to come out smelling
like a rose (the "buddy system" you mentioned).
I applaud your courage. Keep us updated and hang in there I
know
the decent law abiding citizens will understand what you are trying to
do. Please feel free to publish my comments.

good person. I can't help but wish this was an earlier era,
then we would see Mr. Edwards tarred and feathered and rode out of town on a
rail or be placed in public stocks and stoned. Please publish.
I used to live in Oak Hill and I think you should go further with this
case.
Perhaps the State Police or another agency should investigate this and
get
it out of the hands of the local police department in question. At any rate
someone needs to take charge (or responsibility) and clean up the corruption
that has been going on in that town for a long while. I think you are doing
well but you need to take it to Cecil Underwood if necessary. How long will

Sister-in Law of one of the police officers on the force and that, yes I
may be bias .But let me also tell you how much of an embrassment you are
to yourself not to mention your lovely wife..considering she pulled her
pants down too so to speak isnt that what you said that all the force
should keep their pants up.but buddy her pants slipped off real fast
...Let me also comment that you surely do not love your wife or you

Pleaseeeee think about your future with your child as I hear you are
going to have a child.Devil Spawned im sure but any case .Leave the

some of the other issues that you have raised. DEVIL SPAWN- Now that

that his wife is no kind of woman for him to do what he did? Sounds like
typical Police Department cover up talk to me. You are trying to justify
what was done in my opinion. One may think that you have been around the
Police Department far too long. I do not appreciate you attacking my

for pity, lady you certainly need to go back and read the page in detail

that the citizens need to know what they are paying for? If the others

department. I do believe that state lawmakers are arguing this issue
right now. I for one feel the real need for an independent review board for

surely you have to be kidding with this. Why would you let your wife be
the
ridicule of Oak Hill, you must not love her very much. Maybe thats why
your
wife had an affair behind your back for almost three yrs. You are not only
hurting your wife your hurting all the other police officers and families
that are not involved with this farce. Yousaid"they are getting paid to
drop
their pants" how would you like to explain to your ten year old daughter
who
happens to go to rosedale school that someone is making a mockery of the
police dept that her father works at ..the other officers not named are a
credit to their dept and dedicated to their familes and should not be
grouped with the ones that are at question. I dont condone this behavior
with this indivial,but it took two people to have this affair and if you
really loved your wife , why are you humilating her still how do think she
feels about everyone on the internet from shore to shore reading about her
affair and the ridicule when they found out who she is , oh by the way the
officer Harding that left for greener pastures was acccused of cutting and
harassing his exwife that was never told either but it was public knowledge
due to his wife going around telling everyone who would listen , i think you
would make a good pair since you are evidently not a happy person and feels
the need to screw around with alot of lives ..
Dear Anonymous, I thank you for your comments. I must say that yes there are
several officers that appear to honor their badge and also do not condone this
type of behavior. I have known one of the officers since I was a small boy
myself. And no I would not like to have to explain it to the 10 year old.
Needless to say however that the more stuff like this is covered up, the more it
would happen. I do realize that it takes two people to have an affair.
That is not the point I was making. If the officer went home and mowed his grass
when he was getting paid to work discipline should have been dealt out.
Giving the officer a 2 week paid vacation is not the way to handle it
either. And you are correct in stating that I am not a happy person.
