COURSE DESCRIPTION: The 12 K route rambles along Kapiolani Park and Honolulu Zoo, up a hill and through a tunnel into Diamond Head Crater.  It continues on a 0.7 mile trail that switchbacks its way up to the summit of Diamond Head.  It includes a 99pstep staircase, a long dark tunnel and a spiral stairway.  Flashlight is needed.

Not recommended for strollers or wheelchairs due to steps and rocky terrain on the trail.  Trail rating is 4+

START/FINISH: The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel, Travel Desk. The hotel is located next to Sans Souci State Recreation Area across from Kapiolani Park. (Click here for a map to the start point.)

START/FINISH TIMES: The YRE may be walked any time between 8:00am and 3:30pm.

REGISTRATION: Pick up the start envelope, map and directions at the Travel Desk.

CONTROL POINT: Sunray Market, 3158 Monsarrat Avenue. Located at the intersection of Monsarrat and Campbell Avenues. Write the date shown on the card which is displayed on the Market's glass door.

AMENITIES: Water and bathrooms are located at Kapiolani Park, Paki Playgroud and at the Queen Surf Beach Center. Parking is free on Kalakaua Avenue.
