OBJECTIVE
As a graduate of an Exercise Science program and a Physical Therapist Assistant program, I'm looking for a
career associated with human performance. The role of exercise in health, aging, and disease prevention
and rehabilitation is studied by providing in-depth knowledge and practical experiences related to my
field. With the knowledge I've gained in the classroom, I'd like to have the opportunity to use this
knowledge in a medical, commercial, or educational setting.
WORK HISTORY
McDonald's Restaurant
Swing Manager, March 1991 - March 2001
I began my McDonald's career ten years ago as a regular crew person, and have risen my way through the ranks to where I am presently a Swing Manager. I work for CLK Management, which family-owns and operates eight McDonald's restaurants in Northern Minnesota, and KDT Company, which family-owns and operates seven McDonald's restaurants in the Duluth region. My present responsibilities include running shifts, counting money and doing ledger and labor reports, serving the best quality food, cleaning, and training fellow employees (all in a polyester uniform...hehe).
SMDC - St. Mary's/Duluth Clinic Health System
The Center for Personal Fitness
Health Fitness Instructor, February 1997 - present
I began working for this fitness facility as a college intern, and am now a full-time Health Fitness Instructor (formerly called Exercise Specialist). My duties include giving orientations and tours, attending health fairs, answering questions, assuring proper usage of equipment, taking blood pressure and body fat percentage tests, performing fitness assessments, teaching arthritis aquatic exercise classes, teaching Multiple Sclerosis classes (land and water), coordinating fitness interns, marketing a clothing line, editing a monthly newsletter and recipe, as well as being a customer service representative. I may work in the fitness area or serve customers from the reception desk, where I give towels, sell memberships, answer questions, and give tours and information about the facility.

at UMD as a Sports Management major. I have completed a number of courses related to the business
field, including Accounting (Financial and Managerial), Economics (Micro and Macro), Introduction to
Business Systems (computers), Mathematics (Algebra, Finite, and Calculus), and Statistics. Because of
my business emphasis while at community college and my experience at McDonald's, coupled with my
Exercise Science major, I feel I can combine my interests and experiences in a beneficial manner.
I made the Dean's List at UMD during Fall Quarter, 1995. I chose to complete my college internship at The Center for Personal Fitness during Winter
Quarter, 1997 (December 3, 1996 - February 18, 1997). I am now employed there as a full-time Health Fitness Instructor.

I began school at Mesabi Community College as a Business Administration student, but
eventually changed to a Physical Education major. My education here was very general, as required to get my general electives for an Associate's Degree. I played varsity basketball during both my freshman
and sophomore years, and was also an active member of the Mesabi Business Students Association for
both years, while being the secretary during my sophomore year. I received a Mesabi Business Students
Association Scholarship twice. I made the honor roll often during the two years.
High School Diploma
Virginia High School

Virginia, MN 55792
Dates Attended: September 1988 - June 1993
Graduated on June 3, 1993
While in high school, I took many business and science classes. I was very good in my
accounting, word-processing, and English classes, and am an excellent writer and typist. I also played
basketball grades 7-12. I was a member of the varsity squad during my junior and senior years, and was a
co-captain during my senior year. I received a Hoop Club Scholarship. I was on the honor roll often.
COMMUNITY SERVICE/EXPERIENCE
I volunteered at the Virginia Regional Medical Center and the Virginia Convalescent Center
when I was in elementary school and junior high. I often worked in the hospital gift shop or served coffee
to the nursing home residents. With this experience, I feel I'm comfortable working with people of all
ages.
As part of my entrance requirements for the PTA program, I completed a 40-hour clinical observation at the Iron Range Rehabilitation Center, which works with the Virginia Regional Medical Center and Virginia Convalescent Center. During this internship, I was only allowed to observe while therapists worked on both outpatients and inpatients, including stroke victims, sports injuries, automobile accidents, fall victims, nursing home patients, and more.
I completed three, five-week clinical internships during my PTA program, and they included a long-term facility, a general hospital, and a combination setting (home care, outpatient, inpatient, pediatric clinic, and multi-disciplinary). The first of which was at the Cook Hospital and Nursing Home (Cook, MN) from July 13, 1998 - August 14, 1998. The second at Beverly Health and Rehab Center, a long-term and outpatient facility (Superior, WI) from February 22, 1999 - March 26, 1999. The last at St. Mary's Hospital (Superior, WI) from April 5, 1999 - May 7, 1999.
SKILLS
I consider myself computer literate and an Internet addict. I love to surf the World Wide Web,
chat with people from around the world, and create interesting homepages (HTML) and graphics. I also enjoy exploring the
many software programs available, whether it be a word-processing program, a game, or a graphics
program. I'm very creative and love anything involved with a computer. I type fast, write well, and have good grammatical skills!!!
