Okinawan Karatedo UnionFounded by Master Allen Wheeler (10th-Dan), the Okinawan Karatedo Union (O.K.U.) is a martial arts organization open to all Okinawan Karate styles and styles of Okinawan descent. Since its inception the OKU has become known for the quality of its members. Headed by, and supported by its members the OKU provides a wide variety of instruction opportunities. The Okinawan Karatedo Union now boast members from around the world.
By joining the O.K.U. your rank will be documented and maintained as a permanent record of your grade and rank. The O.K.U. board provides legitimate certified rank testing of roku-dan (6th degree black belt) and above. The O.K.U. board does not provide rubber stamp rank promotions and is one of the few, if not the only, organization that fails more students than it up-grades. This adds to the legitimacy, honor and integrity of your rank. The Okinawan Karatedo Union has established a constitution and maintains a standard for promotion.
Communication is one of the best ways to learn new ideas. The OKU provides, free to its members, one of the best newsletters currently distributed. "The OKU Technique" provides an exchange of information with Dojo News and a variety of instructional, informative and inspirational articles.
In addition, if you attend the annual O.K.U. seminar you'll be learning from some of the most dedicated and talented Masters in the world. As an example; the last seminar had one 10th-Dan, four 9th-Dans, five 7th-Dans, three 6th-Dans and two 5th-Dan instructors. After each instructor finished teaching their specialty, another began, and they then stood side-by-side with other students as we all learned together. This is the spirit of the OKU.
An OKU Membership is also one of the least expensive of similar organizations at only $12.00 a year. The OKU is not out to make money, we're out to learn from each other and become better martial artist. If you are an instructor you may submit your dojo news free of cost. You can have your dojo listed in each newsletter and the OKU web site for only $10.00 a year. Member Dojos will also receive a link from the OKU Web site to yours.
