Rusty Wallace
The Late 90's - The Ford Years
The first race in Japan was won by Rusty in November of 1996.
In 1997, Rusty had one win. He was plagued by DNFs but managed to finish 9th in the points standings. In 1998, Rusty started his year out with a win at the Bud Shootout in Daytona. He was the points leader for several weeks and has remained in the top 5 since then.
Rusty crosses the finish line to win the Bud Shootout.
The win in 1998 came late in the year at Phoenix. To say that Rusty is happy to have it is probably putting it mildly. It kept his streak of at least one win per year alive.
Victory came earlier in 1999. Rusty celebrates his win at Bristol in April where he won the pole, led the most laps and then won the race.
