Club and International Games
There are two games in SaaP. There's a club game and an international game. The club game is a conventional "round robin" league arrangement with domestic and European cup competitions and the international game takes place in the European setting of the European Cup (formerly European Nation's Cup) and the World Cup.
The two games can be played completely separately with no interaction between the two whatsoever. They're two separate modules with their own team/player databases. They're two extremely challenging and full featured games that can be enjoyed in their own right. The international game, in particular, will test your skills to the utmost.
However, they can also be played simultaneously with the international friendly and qualifying games spaced through the league schedule over two seasons. The Finals take place in the summer between seasons 2 and 3 (European Cup), 4 and 5 (World Cup), 6 and 7 (European Cup) etc. The qualifying games take place during seasons 1 and 2 (European Cup), seasons 3 and 4 (World Cup, seasons 5 and 6 (European Cup) etc.
When played simultaneously, you begin by managing both a club side and an international side. There are currently 114 club sides to choose from (currently being expanded to over 200) and 55 international squads. You can however be sacked from either job though you will be offered a new club if your old one gets rid of you. If you're sacked as national manager you continue your career as club manager.
When played together, the players for your international squad are taken from the club squads of the club game, including your own, of course. In the usual club smg, your interest in opposition squads is limited to what they might do to your own club side in a match or to their appeal as possible transfer market buys. But here they also become of interest as possible players for your international squad. The striker that scores a hat trick against your club side on a Saturday may be just the striker you need for your crucial World Cup qualifying match the next Wednesday.
If you choose a small international squad, say Luxembourg, then you are able to supplement the limited number of national players in the club game by defining some of your own as the game proceeds. You can choose the USA squad, Brazil etc but they will play in the European conpetitions for the moment. We are currently looking at a CONCACAF option ;>)
