Won the 1997-98 Israeli Championship and Cup with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Size and Athletic Abilities
Griffith has outstanding physical qualities: tall, big body, good athletic skills, good timing, quick feet, mobile. Just lack some intensity and determination.
Offense
An inside player: can take position on the blocks, prefers the left one and wants to go middle after he's caught the ball. Has soft hands, can hit the jump hook or the short-range jumper, but has low free throw percentages.
Defense
He's big, takes room, blocks shots, and is a good rebounder. Has trouble in guarding people who can step out and face the basket, prefers to stay in the paint and intimidate.
Notes
A top level player in Europe, if he had a better attitude he'd definitely be an NBA player.

The free agent camp this week in Milwaukee was really a get acquainted
session for Bucks coach George Karl and center Rashard Griffith.
There were other players around, but make no mistake about it this was a
first date and Karl wants to score big time with the Bucks 1995 second round draft pick.
Milwaukee desperately need a big post player to contend in the play-offs. At
6-11 and 260, Griffith fills the bill as closely as any player the Bucks have
a realistic shot at signing.
Both sides are playing coy. Karl says Griffith would not be a starter. He's
probably telling the truth, but you got to believe the Milwaukee coach is
dreaming about having an aircraft carrier type like Griff. Not the best
defensive player you'll ever find -- still a presence inside, something the
home team at the Bradley Center didn't have last season.
The 24 year old former University of Wisconsin center doesn't need the cash. He's getting paid one million a season in Turkey where he's been the league MVP the past two years. Before that he played in Israel for a couple of seasons.
Dad lives with him in Turkey. He even has cuisine flown in from his favorite
Chicago, hometown restaurants.
The critical questions remain --
"How much is Milwaukee Bucks owner Herb Kohl willing to pony up?"
and
"How much does Griffith want to come home?"

Karl gets acquainted with Griffith at camp

George Karl wasn't about to say that former Wisconsin center Rashard Griffith was the missing puzzle piece for the Milwaukee Bucks. And Griffith wasn't about to say he's dying to begin his NBA career. Ahh, leverage. But beneath the minor fronting from both parties Wednesday at the Cousins Center was a genuine effort by the coach to get to know the player. And vice versa. After four years of playing overseas, Griffith and the Bucks took the first baby step toward a contractual agreement. It was a sign of progress that the 6-foot-11 Griffith met Karl in a three-day camp for free agents that concludes today. "He seems like a great guy, and I would love to play for him," Griffith said of Karl. But the bottom line is that Griffith, the Bucks' second-round draft choice in 1995, has won league titles the last two years in Israel (1998) and Turkey (1999). He is a two-time league MVP in Turkey. Griffith is leaner by about seven pounds from his playing days at the University of Wisconsin, and his shooting range has improved. Though he is a bit slow and defensively liable, he is a more than capable rebounder, inside scorer and space eater. His current contract with Turkey pays him more than $1 million a year. But unlike fellow American players who go overseas, Griffith has never longed to return to the U.S. Griffith's father, Clinton Griffith, stays with Rashard in Turkey during the season. Griffith also brings his Ford Expedition over and his Rottweiler. He even has American food shipped to him. So he's not exactly desperate for the NBA. "I'm going to do what's in my best interest," said Griffith. "I want to be home, there's no doubt about that. It all depends on what happens once camp is over. They'll evaluate me, see if they like me. It could be a perfect situation." Griffith is still just 24 years old, and the Bucks offer him an up-and-coming playoff team that needs a center. It could be a golden opportunity for Griffith; the question is if it will be a green one. The Bucks have three free agents - Dell Curry, Michael Curry and Haywoode Workman - who they would like to re-sign. But that shouldn't interfere with Griffith and the Bucks' financial resources. So for now, Karl is getting a look at Griffith, and that's about it. "I don't think he's a starting center tomorrow," said Karl. "If he committed himself to being an NBA player, there's a good chance he could be an NBA player."Another noteworthy appearance at the camp was made by Rafer Alston. The Bucks' second-round draft pick a year ago served out his 30-day jail sentence for a probation violation. He was on probation for assaulting a former girlfriend. Alston played last season in Idaho in the CBA.
Appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on June 17, 1999.
