Training

anine Specialties "is" training.  It is what we do every day.  From basic obedience to advanced Police K-9 tactics and narcotics detection, it is what we are all about.   Bob has been certified by the DEA and State OBNDD as a k-9 narcotics detection trainer since 1990.  He has been a DVG certified Trial Decoy (Schutzhund) since 1986, while attaining the level of Class I (National Championship level) in 1993.  He has a substantial "training" resume and is more than happy to submit it for your consideration upon request, when looking for a "Trainer".
We cooperate with several trainers within the Oklahoma City area to offer many differing types of training to the public. Each area of training offered has it's own "specialist" .  We choose to do it this way rather than offering  all these types of training from just one person.  By joining with others in this area that have specific areas of expertise, We feel that we offer far superior training to the public that is unique to any other Training Facility.  Please click on  the type of training you are interested in and feel free to send us an e-mail if you have any questions while you are with us.

  •    Obedience   Canine Specialties has the great fortune to be able to draw upon several qualified and certified obedience instructors, that have a  combined experience level unequalled in Oklahoma.  From April to October, we operate classes at the kennel, that offer training directed  from puppy management to advanced AKC and UKC titles.  During cold or extremely hot weather times in Oklahoma, We link up with "Full Circle" Obedience school, to get classes in-doors. Just follow this link to the page that gives times and information about this form of training.

  •     Personal Protection  We offer Personal and Property protection in both group and individual sessions.  We focus not only on the training of the dogs, but we also train you, the handler and property owner, to understand the responsibilities and obligations to your community when having a dog on the premises that is capable of  acting as your own private security force..  This linked page will outline training, session scheduling and pricing.

  •     Schutzhund  We offer a different style of training to most civilians that wish to be able to formally evaluate their dog's performance.  Schutzhund  is a very good, safe and popular  way to measure your training abilities against others.  We have vast experience in Schutzhund and can recommend it to improve your training abilities and lower your stress level if "bite-sports" are your cup of tea.  If schutzhund titles are what you are after, Canine Specialties is where you should be.

  •     Narcotics Detection  We have held certification in detector dog training since 1990.  We have both dogs and training available.  This page will give you some of the perameters of how to train and where to get dogs for this very specialized area of (k-9) training

  •       Police K-9    Our Specialty!  This is our Law Enforcement (K-9) training. We can (and Have) trained Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) and Private Security Officers how to handle their dogs on the streets.  Different Municipalities have different guidelines for "S.O.P.s"  We teach the little things that a team loses (or never gets) when they gets "poured" through a certification program and then just pushed out onto the streets.  We are the "TOP GUN" for street k-9s . "We will make you better".  This program is usually class oriented but individual training is available.  (Civilians may e-mail us for availability of this program).

  • In-Home Training (Security/ObedienceIn-Home (K-9) security training.  This page is a little different than person/property training for the dogs.  This page deals with teaching you how to co-exist with the dogs that you have chosen to surround yourselves with.  Typically, this is our "Fighter/Biter" class that is recommended from all the other schools that won't take dogs such as these in their obedience classes.  Working dogs have a type of temperament that is usually foreign to "pet" classes in an obedience environment.  This class shows you how to train these dogs and gives guidelines for acceptable and unacceptable behaviors.

  • Agility    New to us.  We plan to continue to build agility equipment and make our training Facility available to the local training clubs in the very near future.  This page  will outline times and highlight our completely fenced and lighted training field.

  • Search & Rescue  Canine Specialties has John Randall, a decorated Vietnam Vet with technical skills that Greatly compliment  his teaching SAR to the novice handler.  John has dogs that have made it to FEMA certification and he has proven experience in the field with several "live finds" during "Call-outs" resulting from Several weather related catastrophes in our region.
