Carmarthen A.F.C was formed in 1948, and moved to their present
ground, Richmond Park in 1952. they joined the Welsh League in 1953,
and were promoted to Division 1 in 1960. The season of '60/'61 were
Carmarthen's only competetive meetings prior to their promotion to
the League of Wales. Having won three promotions in four years
Carmarthen joined the League of Wales last season as winners of the
Welsh League and the Cyril Rogers League Cup. And proceeded to adapt well to conditions in the top flight. This season, they have made further progress and have strengthened their squad, even signing Dean Huggins from Barry Town, and managing to keep hold of Colin Pascoe.
Their promotion has meant another "Local Derby" for Aberystwyth (local being only 50 miles away!). Carmarthen appear to have an organised setup, and their Richmond Park ground could become one of the better venues in the League, with new flodlights and over 200 seats in the stand. They also have one of the better crowds in the League, averaging around 300 at home games.
Last season we did the 'double' over them. Hopefully we can do the same again this year!
