Aberystwyth Town 3-1 Carmarthen AFC

A surprisingly mild night saw the entire "Llambed Criw" plus my dad turn out for this one as well as over seven hundred of our closest friends who we negated to invite back for tea. Many of them were from Dyfed's other town who had to make the journey back in the silent knowledge that their team just failed to do anything in the second half and failed to capitalise on coming back into the match when all hope had seemed to have gone.

Both teams made only number changes to their printed line-ups so we have to assume this was first choice action on both counts and it was Aber who drew first blood when the rapidly improving Andy Evans scored from a superb one on one which David Morgan's bad positioning left him powerless to stop. After that the rapidly improving former Cardiff man should have had another but his Goal of the Season blast hit the bar to the "Ooooh"s of the crowd. Carmarthen responded well through Rossiter and Huggins though favourite Ceri Williams looked out of sorts, rather like Gavin Allen did for Aber. The Inter Milan cladalikes got their equaliser ten minutes before the break when an unmarked header from a cross meant that Aber had it all to do again.

It took some time. Attacking with the strong wind, Aber had all the meaningful second half play though Carmarthen again countered with occasional moves of their own. Their defence looked ordered and, as such, could only be beaten by either bumbling or majesty. Glyndwr Hughes combined both on 82 minutes as he bumbled past the defence only to majestically drive the ball past Morgan. To make the final minutes more comfortable, Andy Evans got his second with a blast on 83 minutes. And thus it was all over.

Dad said Aber won cos they were up for it which is probably true. Both teams looked evenly matched throughout and in the end the home team were able to continue their dominance over Carmarthen in the League of Wales. Carmarthen will be disappointed but they just didn't perform. Maybe they can allow themselves a rye smile though for Aber's bubble will be burst when they visit Barry next Saturday.
