If Carmarthen had been in the LoW last season, they would now be
my team as the bus journey is an hour shorter than that to
Aberystwyth. And tonight would have been one of the worst nights
of the season. Facing an Aber team on the back of the Llansantffraid
performance after they had taken a point from their game against
Barry, Carmarthen failed to produce a display of any real note.
Their best spell came immediately prior to half time when Aber
had already established a 2-0 lead. If Ceri Williams had scored
then, and the opportuinity was reasonably clear cut, then the game
could have been so much different. As it was the superb strike
from Martyn Griffiths which added to the goal on sixteen minutes
from Ryan Nicholls meant that Aber could afford the luxury of
being confident at half-time. It was hard to believe that this
was the same side that collapsed on the weekend. Steve Williams
and Dai Blair may not have been on top form and Phil McNeil
was a little slower than normal, but everyone else contributed.
At the back, Rhodri and John Morris were solid and Aizlewood was
in control, K stopped everything he had to. In the middle, Griff
played a stormer and effectively stopped Carmarthen building
anything effective from that area of the park. Up front, Nicholls
and Allen clicked once more and they both had further chances
to score. In the second half, they both added a goal apiece, and
Ry's attempt at a hat-trick was blocked by Richard Thomas, whose
only mistake let Gav score the third on 71 mins when he failed to
notice that he was further away from the post than he thought he
was, the weak shot canonned in off the upright.
For Carmarthen, tonight will be a disappointment, despite good
play from Simon Rocke and Jeremy Morris (who seemed to attack
quite a bit for a no. 2) they never really threatened. In the end
it was Aber's night and the short journey back was passed in
blissful contentment.
