Spread over a sprawling campus of about 800 acres, Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli is located on the Tiruchirappalli - Thanjavur Highway, 17 kms. away from Tiruchirappalli City.
The college is well connected to the city through buses.
Brief History :
The Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli, sponsored by the Government of
India, was started in the academic year 1964-65 under the Third Plan in the State of
Tamil Nadu. The college with three branches of U.G. and an intake of 120 students
started to function from 14th July 1964 and was formally inaugurated
by Sri. R. Venkataraman, the former President of India, the then Minister for
Industries and Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, on 2nd May, 1965.
In recognition of the sustained progress and achievement made by the institution,
all the P.G. Courses were given autonomy in 1978-79 by the Madras University to
which the College was then affiliated, and the U.G. Courses by the newly started
Bharathidasan University in 1986-87 to which the institution is affiliated now.
The Board of Governors, vested with full powers, is responsible for the administration and management
of the affairs and finances of the college, with the Hon'ble Minister for Education, Government of Tamil Nadu as the
Chairman and the Principal as its Chief Executive.
Facilities :
Residential Facilities are provided for the students and staff in the spacious college
campus of about 800 acres. Supporting amenities like Hospital, Post and Telegraph Office, Bank, Shopping Centre,
Cafeteria and a Middle School available within the Campus adds glory to the Campus life.
The College also houses a well equipped Computer center THE OCTAGON and
a Central Library.
The College also supports a Department of Training and Placement which looks after the welfare
activities of the students. It continues to render its excellent services in placement from the very beginning.
Alumni :
The Alumni of RECT have excelled in various spheres of activity and are positioned very well in a number of leading organisations and are also self employed.
The Alumni are brought together under the banner of Regional Engineering College Alumni Association (RECAL) and all outgoing students
are expected to join and participate in its activities. RECAL is in constant touch with the Alumni worldwide.
