CANADA
Roman Catholic Christianism was introduded in what was to become Canada in the early
17th century after the arrival of the first French settlers and a regular hierarchy
was established soon afterwards, in 1659.
In 1945 it comprised the following major jurisdictions :
- the Archdioceses of Edmonton, Halifax, Kingston, Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa,
Quebec, Regina, Saint Boniface, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg.
- the exempt Apostolic Vicariates of Baie de James, Baie d'Hudson, Golfe
Saint-Laurent, Grouard, Keewatin, Mackenzie, Prince Rupert and Whitehorse.
- the Territorial Abbey of Saint Peter's Muenster, the Exarchate of Winnipeg
for the Ukrainians and the Military Vicariate.
