The autumn 1996 I decided to build an aerobatic biplane powered by an electric motor. It had to be aerobatic, easy to fly and have long flight time. My charger limited the battery pack to 16 cells.
I studied a lot of articles and drawings before I got started in designing.
The model is built from 6x3 mm balsa strips and 2 mm balsa sheets. A few pieces of 0,4 mm plywood provides necessary reinforcements. The battery pack is fastened with velcro strips.
I have flown my E'LIZA more than 60 flights. The longest flights have been 13 minutes long.
Normal flights containing loops, rolls and fast fly-bys are 6-7 minutes. Loops and rolls are wonderful. A snap-roll during vertical climb results in a strange but fully controllable tumbling.
Data: span 127 cm, wing area 44 dm2, length 90 cm.
Weight: 2,4 kg
Motor: Plettenberg HP320/25/6 (HP320K/6), 500 watt
Motor control: Sommerauer Fuzzy 60, 30 celler and 60 A
Cells: 14 Sanyo SCRC
Propeller: Aeronaut 12x7 with +5 degree yoke (folder), Falco 11,5x7 (folder), Kyosho 11x8, Kyosho 11x9, Master Airscrew Scimitar 11x8 and APC 11x8. Aeronaut and Falco results in best performance and flight times, perhaps because of their thin and stiff blades.
Current: 45 A (full power).
