Manouvers Description

Runway Partition

The two 35/17 parallel runways are long enough to serve every kind of plane, without any kind of restrictions, although they are not certified for independent operations due to their limited distance.

Normal operations require the use of Runway 35L/R for arrivals, since rwys 17L/R require to circle.
In order to distribute noise effects on wider areas (so as to reduce the overall noise impact), the two runways serve both arrivals and departures without distinction. Runway 35R normally serves departures that require a RIGHT turn, thus involving flights heading to SRN VOR (Eastbound, Adriatic and Austria), while Runway 35L serves departures that require a LEFT turn heading to RMG ADF (Westbound, Thyrrenian and France). Landings are equally divided, living the heaviest (and thus noisiest) planes to Runway 35L, whose manoeuvre doesn't foresee the overfly of populated areas.

These restrictions are applied in good weather conditions, whereas "weather limited" operations see Runway 35L dedicated to takeoffs and Runway 35R dedicated to arrivals (thanks to a CAT IIIB ILS)
