The area in [and eroding out of] Crosby Crater is covered with "Moqui Marbles" and dense unusually shaped and colored chunks of Navaho and Carmel Sandstone. To provide a scale, the squares visible to the right in the photo above are one quarter inch.

The surfaces of these odd stones appear under a 10X glass to be of fused sand grains, but more powerful optics reveal they are coated grains of transparent quartz grains that have been ground flat and highly polished.

The texture feels so unusual and they look so strange that most people I show them to ask if they are some kind of petrified bone.

I believe they were carved and compressed at the tops of
Sills in a meteorite impact and have eroded until this is all that is left.
