THE FLOP SHOTThe flop shot is fast becoming a more popular shot and it's effective if done the correct way. The shot is useful if you require to go over a mound or bunker and want to land the ball softly. This shot is like a bunker shot. Lay the club slightly open or to its maximum loft. With a 60-degree club, you may not need to lay it open as much. Now, take a slightly open stance like a bunker shot, and grip lightly. Imagine sliding the club under the ball, keeping the club moving to the target. The legs play a key roll here as with most shots, and you will use the legs to keep the club moving to the target. Soft hands will allow the club to stay lofted through the shot. Length of swing will vary with the length of shot, but keep it light in the hands, and extend to the target. In these pictures we see Grange Pennant player Adam "still don't get it" Wozniak showing us exactly how this shot is played. |
