YARD-- A measurement equal to the distance from the tip of your nose to the tip of your middle finger with your head forward and your arm stretched out to the side. About 3'.
YULE-- (yul) A Wiccan Sabbat that occurs on the Winter Solstice or December 21. It celebrates the rebirth of the Sun God.
YULE LOG-- When the household fire was extinguished at Yule, a piece of
the wood from that fire was kept until the new year when it was used to kindle the new
fire. This was a holy action that is the ancestor of many customs such as the Menorah of
Judism which is a modified Yule celebration for which a 'historical' miracle was invented
in an attempt to explain why they were doing something.
Some pagans make a permanant Yule Log where they plane a log flat on the
bottom, drill three candle-sized holes on top, set metal holders into the holes and
decorate the log for ues each year.
