VALIDITY-- In Traditional Wicca, it refers to the Witch being properly Initiated by a Third Degree of the opposite gender according to the rules of that Tradition. This is important to a Traditional but of a far less concern to an Eclectic.
VAMPIRE-- 1) An entity or person that lives on the energy of another. A
parasite.
2) A mythical creature that rises from the dead to live off other people. In
modern use, the vampire drinks blood, in other countries, they simply kill and eat their
prey. Also vampyre.
3) A cult-group in todays world that attracts the young who dress in black with
pale skin and red lipstick. Vampires are into loud rock music and appear to have
developed their own religion. Incubus-Sukkubus is an English Rock Group that does
Wiccan-Rock and vampire-rock music.
VAMPYRE-- See vampire.
VARDLOKKER-- (Iceland) One who can summon spirits. See Warlock.
VEGLIONE-- (Italian) The Esbat.
VENENDUM-- (Latin) See staff.
VERDIGRIS-- Copper Sulfate. That green corrosion that appears when coppor ozidizes. Also called Zimat.
VIBRATING NAMES-- To speak a name or a sound in such a manner that a magickal effect is produced. To do this properly requires the ability to speak and breathe from the belly instead of the lungs.
VIBRATIONS-- The energy given off by a living or non-living thing. This energy can be detected and interpreted by a Witch or magickian or psychic.
VISUALIZATION-- To form a mental image of a situation that is perfect in
every detail in such a manner that it is perceived by you as real. Or to remove from your
perceptions something that isn't there. An example is the during an indoor Sabbat, I
remove from my sight the wals and replace them with images of the Full moon over the
Pacific as seen from Hawaii in the west, the Catalina Mountains in the north, a fire in the
south and the wind-swept cloudy sky in the east. Then when I do a spell, I visualize the
results as being done.
This is the basis for magickal workings.
VOODOO-- The religion that combines christianity and West African folk
religion. It is often confused with Wicca with which it bears little or no resemblance.
It was brought to America in it's original form by the slaves who were forced by
the whip to accept christianity. Those slaves who refused to give up their own religion
compromised by combining the two into an uniquely American religion which has
branched off into a number of sects. Voodoo rituals are noted for the ability of the
priests and priestess to allow their Loa to possess them. Also vodoun and voudoun.
VOODOUN-- See voodoo.
VOUDOUN-- See voodoo.
