USING THE CASSETTE PLAYER

This technology is old, but still very efficient. This last term varies according to how the teacher uses it in the classroom. The textbook used in the class has its own set of cassettes prepared for each of the chapters included in the book. Most teachers limit the use of the cassette player to running these types of cassettes.

Teachers can create short activities using this technology. It is very important to have native speakers recording their voices since this will help students to get used to the right word pronunciation. Activities must be short so the students remain focused on them and can follow their development.

Students can also record small role plays for being analyzed at a later time by the teacher. It is also well known that music brings life to the classroom and a somehow helps transport one to the country under study. Through the listening and study of music students can understand the way of life of the native speaker as well as many aspects of the culture.

Since using the cassette player is so easy and requires minimum planning compared to other technologies, sometimes teachers overuse it. This causes a negative effect on the students because obviously they grow tired of having the same kind of activities. As in everything, good planing and integration of this technology when appropriate, according to the class objectives, will result in the benefit of the students learning the language.
