Marcel's Sad Story

Very cute story about a fish (Marcel) whose Bayou (Bayou St. John) becomes polluted. Very interactive, elicits great reactions and responses from the kids.

Birds of the Wetlands

This lesson was originally supposed to be 45 minutes. When I taught it I only got about half-way through. Looks at bird beaks and what they are used for as well as issues concerning bird habitats.

Bird Beak Identification

Works in tandem with Birds of the Wetlands lesson. Have field guides handy so kids can research the birds and identify them.

Animal Track Identification

Was included in the original lesson plan (called Animals of the Wetlands) but was tossed for lack of kid-related field guides to tracking. Would have been a lot of fun.

Oil Spill Simulation Coming Soon!!

A VERY fun activity where kids create an "oil spill" in a pie tin then clean it up with various materials. I used this with Marcel's Sad Story. We read the story, did this activity, the the kids drew pictures of what method(s) they would use to clean up Marcel's bayou.
