Pollution Song and Lesson Plan

Area: Music

Purpose:
		Students will better understand what pollution is.
		Students will learn a song about pollution.
		Students will create movements that coordinate with the words of the song.

Rationale: 
Students will better understand pollution if they experience it in many different ways: 
through science, math, social studies, reading art and music activities.

Materials:
	-copy of song for all students

Content:
	types of pollution, ways of hurting the planet

Activities:
	1. Teacher will sing song.  (3 minutes)
	2. Teacher will lead students to developing motions that coordinate with the words.
	3. Teacher and class sing song with movements

Management:
Students will each have a copy of the song.  The group will discuss possibilities for motions 
and vote on one if necessary.

Assessment:
Student participates in singing and performing the motions.

A song about how NOT to treat the planet

Selfish little humans, messin up the planet,
cuttin down the forests, and drainin out the swamps.

Down comes Mother Nature, and she says,
"You selfish little humans, I don't like your attitude!
cuttin down the forests, and drainin out the swamps!  I'll
give you two more chances and if you don't shape up,
I'll make you extinct!"

Selfish little humans, messin up the planet,
spillin lots of oil and makin a big mess.

Down comes Mother Nature, and she says,

I'm going to make you extinct!"

POOF!!!!!!!

The moral of the song is:

Don't mess with Mother Nature!!!
