Self Examination

Or...Questions to Ask Yourself and Spouse

There is a saying, "Clothes makes the man" (or woman). This would imply that what you wear is what describes who and what you really are. It implies your self worth depends on it. Do you believe that? Or do you believe that God made the man and woman and when He did, they were naked? That is, not in need of clothing. Do you believe it is what's on the inside that counts? Jesus said that some people are like whitewashed tombs, clean and shiny on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men's bones. They are a bunch of fakes that depends on outward appearances. Hypocrites.

When my wife and I first started to look into naturism, we had to ask ourselves some questions. A lot of questions were prompted by outside sources such as magazines, web sites and newsletters. However, there were plenty of them we came up with ourselves over a period of time. Then we had to answer them to our satisfaction before proceeding. And some we asked but answered after we started naturism because we couldn't answer them until then. (Such as "What do they really do inside these parks?") Well, you go look!

Here are some questions to help you and your spouse come to a better understanding. These questions you need to answer yourself anyway, even if naturism is not for you. This will not guarantee that your reluctant spouse will join the naturist or the naturist to stop his or her lifestyle. This may be something that needed to be answered just so you can live with yourself and or each other.

Some of these questions may be silly. Laugh and discover. Who knows? Maybe you have never thought of them this way before. Some may be embarrassing or even scary, but if we can't be honest with ourselves and especially with God (who knows but loves you anyway) then we will never grow and overcome our fears whether we become naturists or not.

Children can also get involved with this, but I suggest you start with each other first.

Have fun with this, pray together about it, and most of all, be honest!!!

Questions to Ask Yourself and Spouse (and God too!):

  1. Do you like yourself?
  2. Do you like your spouse?
  3. Do you feel you are ugly? (Confirmation of Love and beauty from each spouse to the other may be needed here)
  4. Can you two stand in front of each other naked just as God created Adam and Eve to be able to do?
  5. Do you judge others by their looks? Do you despise those that are less than "perfect"?
  6. Are you afraid of each other? Are you afraid of other people?
  7. Do you feel you have to live up to others standards? (Even though they may not really care or even aware that you are)
  8. Are you afraid of what others "might" think about how you dress or look? Are they are even thinking of you? And if they are thinking of you, why do you believe they are thinking negatively of you? Isn't that assuming on your part that others are thinking evil when actually, they too are trying to think good of others, even you?
  9. Is what God create evil? Or did he create Good? Read Genesis Chapter 1 and 2. Then were naked people that God created evil or good?
  10. Can you pray before God naked? Or are you just like Adam and Eve after they sinned and are ashamed to come before God?
  11. Does God want you to come before Him always (naked or not) even if you did sin horribly?
  12. Does God love His creation? Is God ashamed of His creation? (Remember, Jesus Christ died for your sins so He must love you an awful lot!)
  13. Do you try too hard to keep up with clothing styles? Do you wonder why you do? Do others really care? Is that what life is about?
  14. Do you depend on clothes to make your character? Do you depend on clothes to make others like you?
  15. Do you feel that it is clothes that make the man (or woman)? Or do you feel God made them? How did God make them? How did He leave them? When God came back to visit them, (it implies that he often did this), did He expect them to still be naked? (Physically nude)
  16. Why do you think people get upset over a nude body? Do you get upset over a nude body? Why?
  17. Do you feel a nude body automatically equal sex? Why? Is there a way to change that thought?
  18. What if you went to a naturist resort or beach and found your Pastor and or best friend there? What would you do? What do you think they would do?
  19. If everyone went nude as a natural thing, (even though clothes are still needed for certain things) do you think magazines like Playboy and Penthouse would really be all that popular?
  20. If you believe God created us in His image and His likeness, then just what part of God do you find offensive? Should God hide in shame? Is God embarrassed? (Realizing of course that God probably was more interested in us being in His "character" likeness more than physical looks)
  21. O.K., for the sake of argument, lets say that we believe in evolution instead of God. When in our history did we suddenly become ashamed of our bodies? When did we become so smart and self conscious that we suddenly got silly and decided that our bodies just aren't good enough and must be always hidden? Is suddenly being ashamed of our bodies an evolutionary advancement or decline?

Take your time with these questions. Some are debatable.....well, come to think of it, naturism alone is debatable to many. But anyway, do your best and keep in mind, these are here to help you think, pray and talk things through.

The important thing in life is to have a personal relationship with God.
