The EGS/AGS 1999 Major Production: Tom Stoppard's "The Real Inspector Hound" & "Crimebusters"
The Programme for this year's major Production "The Real Inspector Hound" & "Crimebusters". It had to be re-printed several times before the spelling of all the names was correct. |
From the Production Programme: The Real Inspector Hound This is a theatrical 'whodunnit', a parody of the murder-a highly entertaining play from one of Britain's most successful contemporary playwrights. The play opens with a conversation between Moon [Isaac Hikaka & James Coe] and Birdboot [Ben Clark & Colin Hunter], two theatre critics who have come to review a new play. In the drawing room of Muldoon Manor (a conveniently isolated country house surrounded by treachrous swamps and dangerous marshes) a corpse [Chris Haden] lies waiting to be discovered. While the occupants of the house play bridge and tennis and drink tea, Inspector Hound [Rory McCarthy & Rakesh Lal] searches for a madman who has been seen making his way towards the Manor. Being a part of the production, doing various backstage jobs including set, pyrotechnics, and even a bit of gophering, I have to say that it has been one of the highlights of my school year. Mr Moore descibed it as a "colourful" display, and "full of energy". Much thanks must be passed on to Ms Ros Ali, Ms Sue Henry, Ms Marita Gillespie, and Bill Brinsley. After the departure of Dr Baker, a great and respected master and director, the two schools were left with relatively few masters interested in taking over the production (some of us may remember, from last year, a particular master from the AGS science department who suggested that we not even have a major production this year)! The Staff Co-ordinators this year were in fact two teachers from the English department of EGS - Ms Ali and Ms Henry. Their lack of experience did not prove to be too great an obstacle, as - in the end - they managed to produce what most of us would agree to be a most magnificent and memorable production. Much thanks also to Victoria Nicholson, our Stage Manager. She was our mother figure throughout the production. Mature and civilized, she looked after the well-being of the Crew and worked extremely hard, even buying the flowers for the teachers on the final day of the production out of her own pocket!!! For the members of the class who are wondering what ever happened to those Cast and Crew Photos taken during one of the rehersals, they're not ready yet, but I'll make sure you all know about it when they're released. News concerning this will probably be announced at the Cast Dinner which will be after the holidays, sometime in Term 3. I'm still in the process of arranging the Cast Dinner with Ms Ali, Ms Henry, and whoever else, but I'll be sure keep you all informed. So far, it looks like it may be held at the Ellerslie Convention Centre, however, there is also word that we may not be having one at all, due to the large time difference between the Production and the supposed Term 3 date. News Update: Sorry guys, it doesn't look like we are going to have a Cast Dinner. Thanks to the lack of enthusiasm on the EGGS side of things, our cast dinner will have to not go ahead. If you feel we should, talk to Ms. Ali and Ms. Henry, or ask any EGGS girl to ask them for you, 'cause as things stand, it's not happening :( |
