IS.C.I.	IINTERNATIONAL WORK CAMP FERLA SICILY ITALY

August 1999, forty four degrees in the shade, fifteen boys from ten different countries work side to side with a common purpose, animated by the same will to meet, to share work and free time with other friends from all over the world.
Hearing so many languages, melted in a scrubby and amusing English, and understanding, working and communicating......maybe Europe begins just from this small concept.
Also this year, the multiethnic caravan of the International Civil Service has landed to Ferla in Sicily marrying an interesting activity of study and work, rediscovering and improving the ancient techniques of processing the stone of Val di Noto.
We learn how to hone and carve the blocks following the advises of the inflexible, though nice, argentine instructor.
The organization, by Paolo Fiore, has been generous and often "hotly mediterranean," very flexible and nice.
The numerous excursions to Pantalica, Ragusa, Siracusa, and to the beaches of the coast, disburdened the rigid calendar of the works, giving each volunteer relax moments among the jewels of the Iblei Mountains .
The sculptures of the volunteers have been given, like pieces of a multiethnic mosaic, to the Commune of Ferla.
The sculptures will be fixed up by Town Administration among the ancient boundaries of the city.
A recognition must be awarded to the A.P.T. (Azienda Provinciale Turismo) of Siracusa, that took care of this Workcamp.

Florence from Belgium	English To want to live the experience of a Work camp, it's first an foremost to want all to share your free time, your Know-how, your culture, your language, your joy and to accept nothing takeaway in your luggage, only memory of a smile, of a gratitude mark for all what each one, has bring a the local project. A beautiful memory!! French Vouloir vivre l`experience d`un chantier, l`est avant tout vouloir tout partager son temps, son savoir-faire, sa culture, sa langue, sa joie, et accepter dene rien emmener dans ses bagages si ce n`est le souvenir d`un sourire, d`une marque de reconnaisance pour tout le que chacun de nous a pu apporter au projet local. Un magnifique souvenir!!!
Monika from Lituania	English This was one of the most interesting Work-camp that I took place in, the work here could be called "work", because it was more as pleasure and very interesting way to spend time. Rafel from Catalunya	English Ferla is a small Sicilian village in a unfrequented area, it's inhabitants are really particular and the mixture with an also especial landscape. We have made of this work-camp an unforgettable experience. Thanks to these people we have discovered some interesting places and without their help, the camp wouldn't had been possible. Moreover, our will to offer to the Town our labor that we have been doing for these days. We are very satisfied of our stay and of our work-camp in this summer. Espagnol Ferla es un poble petit de Sicilia en una regió poco concorreguda, la seva gent és veritablement particular, la barreja amb una atmosfera no menys especial ha fet d`aquest camp una experiencia realment inoblidable. Ha estat grãcies a questa gent que hem descobert els racons interessant de l`illa i sense l`ajuda dels quals el camp no ha gués estat possible. Tot aixó afegit a la nostra voluntata per oferir al poble una mostra del trebal que hem estat preparant durant aquest dies ha fet que tots estiguem molt satisfet de la nostra estada i dun treball que ha resultat molt gratificant.
Edita from Polland	English For me, the work-camp in Ferla was very beautiful experience. I could do something for another people, meet young people from the other parts of the world. People who specks another languages, are from another culture. Ferla, it is a very small, but very nice and beautiful town. Sicily is for people from my part of Europe very exotic, everything's is another, people, climatic, plants customs. I'm very happy that I'm here..now, I love drawing and sculpture. Thanks for this work-camp, I discovered the sculpture who in something I found very interesting. French Le chantier été pour mai bonne expérience. J`ai pa rencontrer des personnes de pays différents, de cultures différentes. Gràce à le camp, J`ai pa découvrir la sculpture qui est une chose que Je trouve trés intéressant.

Renata from Slovenija	English About camp in Ferla: Although this is a small town with not a lot chances for doing something on your own in the free-time we had nice time with the group. We did a lot of excursions thanks to the organizator Paolo who really worked hard. There were some misunderstandings with the leader because he was not enough tactful. Work in the camp was beautiful and I didn't really feel as working. I enjoyed it a lot. We had a chance to get to know sculpturing which otherwise surely wont happen.
Maura from Italy	English I felt myself very well because everybody wanted to be in a good mood and so they contributed to the good harmony of the camp. I think that this work-camp was a "work" of course, a "camp", of course, and a "holiday". A special holiday in a foreign people, if should summarize this experience in only one sentence, I`ll say: "it was like a survival course". Italiano Mi sono trovata molto bene perché` tutti volevano stare bene e quindi contribuivano alla buona armonia del campo. Penso che questo Work-camp sia stato un lavoro, un campo, e una vacanza speciale in una ragione speciale. Se dovessi riassumere questa esperienza in una sola frase direi: "somigliava ad un corso di sopravvivenza".
Piotr from Polland	English I'm very satisfied of this work-camp, the group was wonderful, we created super atmosphere, and we had good fun all together. Personally, I didn't like drawing, but I liked sculpture, all did their work. We went for same excursions visiting region.. Noto, Ragusa, Siracusa. Tea from Slovenia	English Exept some conflicts, I can say that it was real good. I realized, that I'm not that bad at drawing and sculpturing as I though I was, a good experience. Slovenia Razen nekaterih konflikton, lattko recem, da je bilo res dobro, spoznala sem celo, da nisem pri risanju in kiparjenju tako slaba kot sem si do zdaj misjila, dobra izkusnja.
Jenny from Sweden	English A different but fantastic idea to gather a group of young and curious people on one place in a small village, it was a great experience that I won`t forget in the first place (especially not all the friends that you make on the camp). Sweden En annerlunda men fantastik ide` att samla en grupp unga nyfikna mannisker pa en och samma plats ien liten by en haftig uppeuelse som jag sent kommer att glomma (speciellt uannerna man far da lagret).
Beata from Polland	English This work-camp was totally different from that one I took part in last year. At the beginning I didn't like sculpturing and I thought , I wasn't able to make a sculpture however, everything has changed and it turned out I like it. I'm very happy, I took part in this Work-camp, because I met here many interesting people. Laura from Italy	Italiano Questo e` stato il mio primo campo di lavoro e devo ammettere che come prima esperienza e` stata davvero buona. Mi piace molto disegnare, ma in quanto a scolpire, non avevo mai provato come tutti gli altri, ed ho subito pensato che non ce la avrei mai fatta in due settimane. Adesso finito il Campo di lavoro e completata la mia scultura, ho avuto l'ennesima conferma che niente e` impossibile se si possiede buona volontà`, tenacia e fantasia...
