Psychological first aid

This document predates the Axioms but it seemed worth including. It has its own little set of axioms - they are a few tricks I found to rescue me from situations that might otherwise be damaging. To use them you need a small amount of preparation: I've made my lists - you can see them at the end of this section, except for the life style rules which are discussed in the page Discussion on Axioms text.
There are another few lists which are not so dependent on a person's individual circumstances; feel free, however, to adapt them if you wish.

5 main points of psychological first aid

  1. Remember your positive characteristics
  2. Remember the good things about your present way of life
  3. Remember the dos and don'ts for maintaining these good things
  4. Remember the axioms for winners
  5. Practise the "next slide, please"1 trick for dealing with intrusive, destructive and negative thoughts
Note 1: This refers to those "lantern lectures" where the lecturer would stand before a screen whilst his assistant operated a slide projector at the back of the hall. When he had exhausted all he had to say about the topic on display, he would say "Next slide, please" and the assistant would with a single action switch us to a completely new world where all the associations of the previous one were forgotten.

5 important DOs and DON'Ts for maintaining the good things in life

  1. DON'T carry out destabilizing actions
  2. DO keep ethics at the forefront in all personal relations
  3. DO keep open to intuition
  4. DON'T indulge in "little people's"2 actions
  5. DO maintain your life style rules
Note 2: This refers to the notorious statement "Only little people pay taxes" attributed to a former hotel magnate. I'm not suggesting you should avoid your civic responsibilities, rather the reverse: if you want to protest, do so in a big, positive way - damaging the tyres of the neighbour's car or breaking a few windows at the social security office is not going to solve anything but will only lead to more problems.

5 axioms for winners

Use these as mantras to repeat to yourself until ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED of them.
  1. I'm on top of my form both physically and psychologically
  2. I'm in control of myself and my surroundings
  3. I'm not dependent on any person, habit or belief
  4. I live my life the way I think right, not the way people tell me I ought to
  5. My goals in life are realistic and follow my ideals; with strength and a little luck I will attain them
