Design Exercise - Preliminary Work.
You will be starting an exercise which involves planning and prototyping
a rich media marketing/selling page for a product of your choice. This
product should be a reasonably high-end product which consumers need to
examine and think about before committing themselves.
Firstly, get yourselves into groups of three. Use the links in this week's
green zone to give yourself some background ideas in consumer decision
making. You can't turn yourself into an expert in an hour or two, but
you should get some inspiration. Break up the material between the members
of the group and share ideas.
With this background, get together and think of a suitable product. Your
reading should give you ideas for a product that involves consumers in
careful decision making processes. When you have a product, then start
to think about the kind of product information that you can communicate
over the web, using the full range of media available in Flash: text,
still images, brief clips of moving images, sounds, animations, interactions.
Plan out what your consumers can find out, and what use they might make
of the information.
Draw up your information as a design 'wish list', ready to implement
in Flash when we have learned some more techniques.
