14 April 2001 : Whew! After weeks of toiling at uni, I finally have time to update this web site. Third year is very challenging. This semester alone, I have 4 projects to finish. And it's tough, especially the one where I have to work in a group of six people. Never before have I had the experience of working in such a big group. Although at times I get annoyed by the people whom I share hours with, I do see the bright side of such interactions. Indeed, when we come out to work, it's going to be just as challenging, if not more. So, I better get use to it now than regret about it later. What I have against the uni is that it should have been more fair in its allocation of work difficulty. First and second year are seemingly too easy compared to third year. In fact, if you combine the first two years, the third year still beats them in difficulty by quite a margin. If the university had done a better job, we wouldn't need to do so much catching up in our most crucial year. This year, I share the corridor with some Aussies. Initially, they were a bit noisy but things sorted themselves out after a while. I did my part by buying ear plugs and would recommend the sponge type to anyone having the same problems when trying to sleep. It filters out soft noises, which I'm really prone to, and muffles loud voices so that you don't have to concentrate on the content. Right now, I'm enjoying a week long "study" break. It's really invigorating so far but I will have to start working again soon. Notice, it's not so much studying than working... That's because most of the load I have now are the projects... not to say that there isn't much to study though. Also, I went horseback riding quite a couple of weeks ago. It was thrilling, not to mention scary in the beginning. The horses didn't gallop or anything, so the worst parts were when they started to trot. Ow, how your bum hurts. Luckily, everytime when I'm on the verge of falling, I miraculously manage to stop the horse. There are times when the horse decided to trot off another direction when they're supposed to follow the horses in front. Mine did. It trotted one big circle. I had to lower my body as we passed a low branch. In conclusion, one would not have much control over these horses, no matter how hard you kick, since they are used to making a beeline, i.e. they prefer to follow the horses in front. So, when the horses in front starts to trot, watch out, hang real tight to the saddle. |
