13 September 2000 : Gosh, you wouldn't know what I've been through for the past week. I sat for my first evaluated in-lab programming test. It was scary since it was my first time, having to write programs on the spot. But I think I managed it well, though I didn't have time to do some of the documentation.
But, there are more exciting things to tell! I went to
Araluen for the Tulip Festival on the 9th of September. The place was simply
spectacular. I can't complain about the photos because there is absolutely
nothing to complain about. Photos turned out wonderful. Although it did
not capture the actual atmosphere, the blend of colours has been well maintained.
Do have a look once you've read this. Araluen is about an hours ride by
bus from Perth. The place is famous for tulips and flora and is fast growing
to become one of the best botanical gardens. We had a picnic there, sitting
on the lush green grass and munching away some chicken Adobo (a Filipino
dish) kindly prepared by Carol and Myleen. Then we went on an excellently
beautiful walk, absorbing all the colours... The whole trip took half a
day.

Yesterday, we celebrated Asian Night 2000 at Currie Hall.
I wasn't expecting much from this event since I heard that the preparation
was getting worse each year. But to my surprise, this wasn't the case.
Many people turned up in costumes from all over the world, not just Asia.
We had Mexicans, English palace guards, 'Japanese' in Kimonos, Thai royalties,
etc. The food was excellent. Orange duck, green ginger chicken, beef rendang,
red emperor fish, and more. It certainly was a waste when we couldn't finish
the massive fish. The food is the best you'll ever get from Currie Hall
throughout the year. And the performances were awe-inspiring. The event
started off with some Aboriginal dances and the usual speech by the principal.
After that, we were barraged with many other performances including a fashion
show which certainly drew everybody's attention. There was also a 'dumb'
debate, 'charades', rhythmic dancing, some martial arts and a performance
by the Perth Dance Group who performed dances from all over the world -
Greece, Balkans, etc. It was certainly a very memorable event.
