Gender Identification

Most people identify with the genitals between their legs. Prepare to be surprise.

It used to be widely accepted that gender was caused by upbringing. A theory developed by John Money in the 1960s explained that whatever genital a person had at birth they would identify with. A person brought up in the same gender would be normal. Because of this when the sex at birth could not be easily determined, the doctor would reassign the sex of the child with a flick of the scalpel; and 'Voila!'. You now have a girl (or boy).

Studies by Milton Diamond, and long awaited acceptance by the medical community, proved that sex and gender is actually determined before birth in the neural wiring of our brain. While 99% of birth are born "normal" the remaining 1+% does not fall within the two accepted categories.

Needless to say, the 'T' in GLBT covers alot more aspect of gender identification than one would assume at first.

I will attempt to quickly describe the major terms used in gender identification... but please don't get stucked on labels. It's a long grey line between male and female.

  • Crossdresser: a person who puts on the clothes associated with the other gender. It's widely accepted for women to wear pants and other "male" garnments, it is not accept for men to put on dresses and other feminine garnments (except Kilts. see http://www.utilikilts.com/ )
  • Transvestite. a man (usually) who not only likes to put on dresses and hills but also likes to play the part of the woman as well.
  • transexual. a person who is wired differently inside. the woman in the male body.

Instead of trying to describe the terms use in gender identification ( CD TG TV TS M2F F2M DQ etc ) I will refer you to a few well written site I found:
