While individual elements of the Baltimore Navy have existed since the construction of the City Wall was completed, the Naval Division wasn't spun off into its own separate force until after 21 PA. The Baltimore Navy, or Naval Division, was further separated into two different sections, the Inner Harbor Fleet and the Open Water Fleet. The Inner Harbor Fleet uses mostly light watercraft such as the Riverine Patrol Boat (PBR), the Scorpio Torpedo Boat, and several types of mini-subs. Its areas of operation include the Inner Harbor of Baltimore and the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay. The Open Water Fleet uses the wind-powered Frigates and Clippers, with Scorpios being carried by the Frigates for close to shore combat. Also included in the Open Water Fleet are the "Skipjack" transport vessels that the warships protect. The "Skipjacks" are crewed by ordinary merchants and sailors, not actual Navy personnel.
The navy has two principal bases, the first is the Inner Harbor of Baltimore City. The Inner Harbor base provides docks and piers for the repair and construction of any of the vessels in Baltimore's inventory. The second base is on Snow Island, one of the few islands left at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. The Snow Island Base has facilities for the repair and maintenance of any of the vessels in the Open Water Fleet. In an emergency, such as a hurricane, the Snow Island base has enough piers to hold all of the ships on Atlantic Ocean patrol, roughly 100 spaces. The Snow Island Base also has a massive radar and sonar facility to detect incoming Atlantean raiders or large sea creatures. The radar range is roughly 300 miles, and accurate sonar range is roughly 100 miles. To protect this important base, the island is protected by multiple long and medium-range missile bays and laser turrets. Besides the two main bases, the navy also has several firebases spread along the Chesapeake Bay. These firebases generally consist of a short-range radar system, a power generator for the radar and recharging Scorpios, a small pier, two missile turrets, and a small bunker that also stores extra torpedoes and grenades for Scorpios. The firebases are manned by 20-30 personnel.
All told, the Naval Division numbers at roughly 25,000 personnel. The Baltimore Navy currently (as of 105 PA) consists of the following vessels:
