Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Vancouver is a coastal city and major seaport, located on the mainland of southwestern British Columbia, Canada. It is named after Captain George Vancouver, a British explorer.

The population of the city of Vancouver is 587,891, while the population of the metropolitan region, known as the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) or Metro Vancouver, is 2,180,737 (2006 estimate). This makes it the largest metropolitan area in western Canada and the third largest in the country. Vancouver is ethnically diverse, with 52% of city residents and 43% of Metro residents having a first language other than English.

Vancouver is located between the Strait of Georgia and the Coast Mountains. Its economy has traditionally relied on British Columbia's resource sectors: forestry, mining, fishing and agriculture.

Stanley Park is one of the most popular attractions. There is so much to do here from strolling along the sea wall that goes all the way around the park, the walking trails, hiking trails or if you don’t like walking you can also take a tour ride around the park on a horse drawn wagon.... China Town (Above): Between 1890-1920, early Chinese immigrants settled in what was known as Shanghai Alley and Canton Alley . By 1890, Shanghai Alley was home to more than 1,000 Chinese residents. Gastown district is where the original City of Vancouver began. It is named after a legendary pioneer called Gassy Jack. Gassy Jack (Jack Deighton) opened the first hotel and saloon and was known for his cursing and strong arm tactics.
