Three Lord Holder's sons; Etdain of Fort; Ferrin of Ista; and Carbaon
of Igen hold the area beholden to Veridia Weyr; Lady Aylinn holds Rivercrest.
Etdain, a middle-aged man who had dedicated his life to Gathers and living
as a Lord's son of no rules, had one too many disagreements with his strict
father, and insisted on leaving Fort Hold. Land abounded in the Southern
Continent, so that is where Etdain settled and began Holding. Feeling the
responsibility, Holder Etdain finally grew up, and began taking control of
his hold. SunChaser Hold, named because of the way the clouds seem to chase
the sun as it sets over the inlet the Hold is at. SunChaser Hold is placed
where the Paradise River Hold of Anne McCaffery's Pern was. Ten years after
Etdain was named Holder of SunChaser, his hold prospers, being a center for
fishing and the study of dolphins. At the Lord Holder's Conclave of 196,
he and Ferrin of Ista were ordained Lord Holders. Ferrin and Carbaon, friends
since childhood, felt the overcrowding of their fathers' Holds even as
fosterlings. At a young age, Ferrin and the younger Carbaon received permission
to start a hold in the South. Rumors of Thread returning caused Carbaon to
influence Ferrin to decide on a site just south of the Eastern Range, south
of SunChaser Hold, on Paradise River. Both men thought that in the case that
Thread might return, the mountains to the south may hold a weyr to protect
them. Both men were openminded to dragonriders, as long as they gave the
Lord Holders' sons the respect they 'deserved'. Ferrin proved to be the better
at Holding, and Carbaon became his Steward, while they allowed Veridia Hold
to swell. Many people came, and Veridia became a center for gathering numbweed
and other plants that aid in healing. Lords Ferrin and Etdain devised a plan
to send boats with the harvests up the river for easier trade with the North.
Lord Etdain would receive 40% of profits and rights to half the boats, while
Lord Ferrin would receive the other 60% and permission to marry Lord Etdain's
daughter, Lady Dema. Carbaon received right to hold the new Lakeshore Hold,
a minor hold under Veridia. Founded two years after Veridia Hold, Cascade
Hold is beholden to Veridia Hold and Weyr. It was created as a farming hold,
but now many Theatercrafters live there, and teach others this craft. Cascade
Hold is a minor hold, with a maximum capacity of 60 families. Currently there
are 47 families here; it is held by Holder Iashin. The three Holds were further
reunited in 197 by the founding of Veridia Weyr. Lords Ferrin and Etdain
and Holder Carbaon are on friendly terms with Weyrleader A'lan and Weyrwoman
Ileia ((Carbaon is adoptable; email the BOD for details))
Earlier this turn, Aylinn was confirmed Lady Holder of a third major hold
under Veridia Weyr, Rivercrest. Her hold has a Weaverhall, a Pottercraft
Hall, and is already building a reputation for its runners.
