Style
There are two styles by which a
war can be fought: Attrition and Manoeuvre. Attrition is
a brute force test of strength, the aim being to destroy
your opponent's army through force and firepower. Control
is centralised and success depends on your army's ability
to inflict and absorb casualties. The basic tenet is to
attack strength with strength.
Manoeuvre warfare attacks
your opponent's System, not the components. You're not
necessarily looking for a high body count. Many of your
opponent's units will remain untouched though essentially
useless as they can't engage. The tenet here is to attack
weakness with overwhelming strength.
In reality, all strategic
approaches contain elements of both styles, though it is
usually better to concentrate on one. |
